I'm having the same problem, i just try mock papers, find what needs work, work on it, and then do more, or at least thats what i've done for the last week with my maths, and it seems to have worked.

I'm cr@p at revision, just cant sit down and concentrate. Pain in the arse because I really need to do well in my last business exam to get into uni, but I sit down and write a bit, but it doesnt seem to be absorbed into my brain :(  I thought at one point I might have some kinda mild ADD, because I couldnt even concentrate on stuff I actually wanted to learn (music theory). Anyway this is getting off topic, so - I hardly revised for any of my GCSEs and passed them all with fairly good grades (except RE, but its not like thats a proper subject anyway). I dont recommend it though, I was lucky, all my papers were easy, but my AS and A levels havent been so easy

My technique has always been wake up early on the day of the exam, panic, revise the shite outta everything in the morning, then go to the exam and nail it. The pressure really gives you a kick up the backside to revise harder.

However, I would NOT reccomend this technique. Past papers are the way to go. Chances are you'll notice some recurring themes, and It'll give you a better idea of what to expect.

The best strategy I've ever found to capture and embed thoughts, ideas and knowledge is the concept of Mind mapping.

Here is a link to a bit of an initial introduction:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_map

Here is a link to some software I found using a Google search but I believe it is more beneficial to get out the coloured crayons!!

http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Don't be fooled into thinking you are simply drawing & f*cking about. The process is far more natural than linear writing and allows a more complete understanding of the interrelationships to emerge.

I'd say if you are new to the concept use it in conjunction with your traditional note taking / revision. With experience you will be able condense a whole course into one mind-map on one sheet of paper.

....and never forget a thing.

Good luck.

you too, NP!

past papers do work, i have about 3 or 4 to do in maths and one in english so i'll do them this week. should be ok.

thanks Dave, that would be worth looking into, perhaps this weekend when i actually have time  :)

2 hyphenated words

"post" and "its"

stick em everywhere

above the kettle, above the computer screen, on your books, in front of the bog, on the outside of the shower (unless you wear glasses like me, then you can't read them in the shower) seriously, EVERYWHERE.

put formulae and key points on them
if you read the same points over and over again then it'll go into your head, plus when you need to think of it in the exam, you'll remember seeing it while making a cup o' tea :)

oo another thing i'm trying this year (i say trying because i've never revised for exams in my life) is get to college/skool about 2 hours before your exam starts (yes, even the morning exams) and sit down while it's quiet and do a hard practise paper before your exam starts, it'll wake your brain up and get you in the right frame of mind for the subject
