I purchased a used Terry McInturff Guitar that has had the pickups swapped out and want to bring the quality of pickups back up to par with the guitar.

I want to put in 2 Irish tours based on the sound clips and was thinking either the:

1 Stormy Monday
or
2 Mule

For the bridge.

I do have a coil cut switch to cut down to the screw coil on the bridge for single coil tone.

What do you think?

I would say the Mule would match the ITs a bit more in terms of output. What sort of tones are you after? A better match for the SM or Mule would be 2 Apaches!

I'm guessing that you're not interested in Holy Diver, Nailbomb or VHII :) (all of which come with ITs in the "standard" HSS sets)

If it was me I'd choose Mule, but that's just a guess as I don't have either a Stormy Monday or a Mule...

What style of music are you going to be playing? The mule will be a little fatter sounding than the Stormy Monday.

I play Texas Blues, Southern Rock, Alt Country and a little of everything else. I'm not looking for a metal pickup although I do play an occasional 80's rocker. I'm looking for a smooth and thick bridge pickup that can drop to a single coil and match up to the Irish Tours.

I think that you might like the Riff Raff or VHII, they will give you a bit more punch in the bridge than a Mule or Stormy Monday, and both of them split well. The VHII has more bass than the Riff Raff, but probably th eRiff Raff would do the country better. One other pickup to listen too if you want the driven sound more would be the Crawler, which I use with 2 P-90's in a PRS EG IV (HSS). This is a very smooth pickup and covers all styles well.

If you're wanting to keep the tone classic then The Mule will sit well with 2 x ITs and like Phil says, VHII would also work well-a little more power and a touch more bass.

I have a mule in the bridge with IT's and It is perfect. I have it split, but I find my self liking the bridge- middle position better when it's not split, for clean And dirty. It's odd, but I get more Knopfler tone when the mule is full humbucker with the middle combined. I also have a blend push-pull to mix the bridge with all others and get a neat meters/james brown tone. Country tones abound as well. The mule just rules And The ITs are awesome as well.
