Pimp my Les Paul crazy!
« on: May 07, 2007, 04:19:27 PM »
So I was looking at my Les Paul today, and I'd forgotten how damn cool it is. I want to play it more in my band, but it has dodgy electronics and I want to swap the VHII's out for something a bit 'softer'.

Anyway, its a bank holiday and this got willo thinking. When the time and money comes to change these things on the LP to make it giggable, why don't I add some little interesting things to it too?

So, what kind of onboard mods, switches, gizmos and other cool things can I do to my LP?

I will consider anything...
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

Feline pimped one of my Les Pauls as follows:

Replaced tuners with Gold sperzels
Replaced nut with Earvana
Refretted with 6100s (fret ends over the binding rather than the other way round)
Gold BKP Miracle Man set
Gold roller bridge
Gold tailpiece & pickup bezel screws
Replaced pots with 500k CTS
Wired a variable coil split for the neck pickup in place of the neck tone control
Wired the bridge tone control as a master tone control

Yes it cost a bit, but aesthetically it's now my dream Les Paul as well as sounding goddam awesome
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

And a kaoss pad

whew, that guy certainly took the bull by the horns!  impressive.  myself, i end up never using the effects i have, so much as i'd love something like that, it'd be a waste of time.

Willo, what about the Jimmy Page wiring?  4 push/pulls giving all kinds of coil split, phase and series/parallel options.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

PICS!

pics thread - OK, it's only a shot of the body & the flash indoors makes it a bit bright (the pic of it with nickel/chrome hardware on page1 is a more accurate representation of the colour), but you get the idea.

No pics can do justice to Feline's awesome fretwork or how nice it is to play though... :D

I like that Feline list, just change the pots for Rs guitarworks(push-pull, series/parallel) and that's as pimped as it gets.  Add BKP  4 way conductor al gusto.

How about a piezo bridge, as the Page wiring has been mentioned already.

Or people who just enjoy making odd sounds like myself! As far as i'm aware, I harbour no inappropriate desires for Mr. Bellamy... Represion can be a powerful thing tho.
