megadeth was always about politics

countdown to extinction, symphony of destruction, hangar 18, the scorpion, peace sells... ... .. i could go on and on

ofcourse, but on the first listen, it felt far too literal on some tracks.

I think its Amerikhastan thats my major gripe, at least the intro. And washington is next! i've just removed them from the track list, and now i like the album. :}

if you ignore the vocals washington is next is amazing.

I would rather kick out Friedman and replace with Chris Poland. First 2 albums were much better than what followed imo.

I just got this album... I'm finding it very boring so far. Glad I didnt pay for it.

Play for Blood and Sleepwalker are the only ones I've really enjoyed so far.

Rust in Peace ftw!

I love the album. Need a few more listens to get more familiar with the album but overall I love it. The guitar tones are absolutely amazing, reminds me of Countdown To Extinction (favourite Deth album)

I prefer Chris Poland's playing too but the best Megadeth album for me is Rust In Peace which has MF playing - saw them on that tour and they were a pretty ordinary live band actually, especially since Alice In Chains opened up for them, then The Almighty.

I've only just got UA and was pretty underwhelmed on first listen, but it's growing on me fast (as long as I ignore the lyrics).

Not crazy about Glen Drover - he has some of Chris Poland's legato thing going on, but he's less creative.  He seems to slip too easily into shred-w**kery when something melodic would work better.

I take Davey's point about Megadeth being very much Mustaine's band, but some hired guns are better than others, and I think Marty Friedman made a big contribution to the band's sound.  So did Max Norman on the albums he produced.

But overall, I like UA a lot - which is great, as there are so few new metal albums I enjoy nowadays.

yeah the lyrics are pretty cheesy, but I thought Megadeth was more or less always about that? I mean... look at the album covers and their previous lyrics...

Am I the only one who thinks that Rust In peace is the best $%&#ing album ever? I ACTUALLY get a music high listening to Holy wars (the first part) and Tornado of Souls.

Well... the good thing is it's set me writing lyrics again. Or is that the bad thing? :)
I've got one so far: 'Historyectomy Reversal (Can you hear me at the back Dave?)' which is maybe a tad political... :)

Well said Philly Q.

I give UA a 7.75/10; Mustain is not getting any younger and his music reflects where he is at this point in life.

I've had UA for a couple of days now and I LOVE it too.

It would have sat in my collection gathering dust after the first listen but I kept with it and by listen 5/6 I've really got into it.

I always find that the less immediate albums tend over time to be some of my favourites.

I'm gonna go back and put some effort into MD45 (Mustaine's solo effort) and see what I think of that.

I've only EVER played that once despite owning it for years..

The MD.45 album is brilliant!  I like it better than a lot of Megadeth stuff (and I love Megadeth).

Have you got the original version with Lee Ving on vocals?  On the remaster, Mustaine apparently "couldn't find" Ving's vocal tracks and redid them himself.  It's nowhere near as good.
