V30s wouldn't be my first choice for death metal - that midrange honk and reduced low end (compared to G12T-75) doesn't suit the style imo.

the K100s would be great I'm sure, but the 75s are tried and tested by thousands of metal bands.

You should try a Celestion Century Vintage, they are very light (neodymium magnet, 1.6Kg total! ), they sound like a V30 with a bass boost.

+1

i have one
sounds great even without a cab
a v30 weights 4.7 kg
so 1.66 kg for a few extra bucks is a really nice choice
and v30's are chinese now
century vintage are still made in england
g12t75's have great tone, but no presence
they're too scooped when used alone
nice for bedroom playing and even pro recordings (nevermore uses them), but not in a band, specially if there is another guitarrist with middier speakers

i have read a few reviews, and they seem to sound VERY vintage, just like their name says.

the K100 would have a much more modern sound, just what i'm looking for

I was told the neodymium magnet speaker are also louder than the traditional ceramic ones. Did you notice this between the V30 and the century vintage?

I am thinking as well about replacing the G12T 75 of my 80W 1x12 Marshall by something with more mids. I thought of the V30 or the century vintage. But as I am mostly playing alone at home, I really don't need something that is gonna be louder than what I already have.

that amp is screaming out for a classic lead 80, it has the increased mids you want.  I like it alot more than V30s as it doesn't have that peaky midrange honk that the V30 does.  The CL80 also has a chunkier bass end.

can I also point out that the current Chinese-made V30 is no different to the one that was made in the UK since the parts have been made in China for many years now - they were only 'assembled' in the UK.  I'd be very surprised if even Eric Johnson could tell the difference in a blind test.
