Vox AC30CC2
« on: May 14, 2007, 04:34:37 AM »
I am considering getting a new valve amp and I'm looking for something versitile, reliable, simple, warm and sweet in tone, not an amp for metal. I've been looking at the Vox Ac30CC2 and AC15CC1 amps, I want a very bluesy, rich tone. I love vintage amp tones, as to my ears they are a lot richer in tone.

Does anyone already own either of these two amps? and if so how good are they?

I'm not definite it's early days yet, there's a lot of other amps I'm interested in.

I had both the AC30CC and the AC15CC for about a Fortnight when they first were available. I waited for the AC15CC to come out before doing all this ..for obvious reasons LOL. A few years ago I had a REAL AC15 and had regretted parting with it on countless occasions.

Now I am certain that Vox have got on top of the early problems that I encountered by now. BUT....I had to go through 4....YES FOUR AC30CCs before I got one that worked properly! NOT a Good Start.
The problem was actually more annoying than anything else, but....IF you are going to shell out Hard Earned, you would reasonably expect things to be RIGHT.  What happened was that the Vibrato never shut down completely. It was always there, albeit right in the Background, but noticably "there".

Right...Personally, IF I were going to get an AC30CC then it HAS to be the Alnico Blues. I know the Wharfdale one is cheaper, but the Blues sound absolutely dynamite with an AC and I really couldn't get excited with the others.

The AC30CC is a Great All Round Amp. It really WILL do just about any style (Metal being the exception). The New Circuitry is great and you will struggle to get a Bad Sound out of the thing. That Said.....It will take a while to get completely conversant with what everything CAN do and HOW it all interacts. My Only beef is the usual Vox AC30 problem, (a) They ARE Damn Heavy! (b) The positioning of the handles has always been a joke. Do a Gig with an AC30 and then try and Lift It by its handles!! Muwahahaha

"Who has replaced me handles with Rubber Bands"?  Yes....The Amp stays firmly seated on the Floor whilst the by now HOT Handles stretch!!!!!

The AC15CC is another Amp altogether. In my opinion.....and I do stress..MY OPINION, it is a MUCH nicer Amp. For a Bluesy Rock Band, these are absolutely WONDERFUL. They are Punchy, Gritty, Dirty, or...Clean as a whistle, albeit without "quite" the Headroom of the 30.

You would be surprised just how well an AC15 will keep up with a Drummer!! The AC15 does share the same characteristics as the AC30 on this point......They ARE loud Amps. A GOOD AC30 can keep up with a Non Master Volume Marshall 50 fer gawds sake!!!

Hope some of that actually helps?

I heard it's cheaper to get the one without the blue speakers and install them yourself so might be worth doing that if you want to save money.

I really, really don't like the "CC" range... they're a poor imitation of real AC30's.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

I'm heading more towards the AC15CC as it's more my kinda tone. Here's a few facts.

Did you know that there is only 1dB difference between 15 and 30 watt amps, meaning that 60 watts is only 2dB louder than a 15 watter, 120, 3dB and so on. More watts is not more power, 1dB is a tiny difference, it's barely even audible.

I'm finding that I prefer bluesy tones nowadays, even when playing heavy metal, since I've matured a bit from teenage shitety leads, I dont like to mess about anymore, and I need a strong amp to reflect that in my playing. I'd definitley get the Blue speaker with the 15watter or 30 for that matter, seems worth the extra cost.

What kind of setup did you use with the Vox Ac15cc Rob? as in did you get to try it with a BKP loaded guitar??? any sound clips of your vox experiences? :P

Ben.
