JCM800 question
« on: May 17, 2007, 12:13:31 PM »
Right - I'm thinking of buying a KORG AX3000G Effects processor - simply because they are cheap and they are consistent when it comes to live use (ie, plug in and play, same sound everytime etc).  Plus they sound great, they are digital sounding but for the amount of effects, dynamics and harmonies we use, our live sound needs to be PERFECT!

My other guitarist uses one live and his sound cuts a hell of a lot more over mine (and im using lots of nice stuff).  Now the question is, can I plug this in to the RETURN of my effects loop (so I'm using the 800 as a power amp) and not damage the preamp section for not being plugged in?

Btw, its a reissue 800.

yep, you can just plug into the effects return and use the amp as a poweramp.  the master volume will still function but the gain and tone controls shouldn't have any effect at all - you could even take the first two preamp valves out the amp (you'll need to leave the ECC83 for the PI in the amp of course).

Are you sure that the Master Volume is post loop?
it's not on my JCM 8002205 slit channel
If I use it as a power amp I get 50+watts and its VERY LOUD

actually, since you mention it I don't think it is (whoops).  the amp will certainly still act perfectly well as a poweramp but the master volume won't work as the effects loop is between the master volume and PI.

So (with that in mind), make sure you adjust the master volume on the preamp going into the effects return of the Marshall otherwise it will be running flat out.  'If' that model has a level control on the return side of the loop then you could use that as a master volume.
