Well i want to fit a standard type humbucker to the neck of my telecaster custom, fed up with the rubbish Seth lover "wide range" re issue thats there at the minuit!

would it work if i fitted a pickup surround to the scratch plate to take a standard humbucker, i suspect that the surround would be too high and the strings would catch the surround! i dont know what to do! I want a decent humbucker at the neck! and getting a pickguard made for a standard humbucker is not the road i wanna go down! i really dont!

NEED HELP AND ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if a narrow mounting ring would fit under the strings, I think it might still be a bit smaller than the Fender humbucker.  And you'd have to drill a couple of holes in the scratchplate so it'd be ruined anyway.

I'd probably get a new scratchplate, but I agree it'd be a shame because the Fender humbucker looks very cool.

What about getting the Fender pickup rewound/rebuilt by BKP?  It would cost almost as much as a new pickup, but worth it I think.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

have you tried switching the volume pot to 1M? - I've mentioned it to a few people on this forum but can't remember who.  a 1M pot will give the pickup some sparkle back and take away that muffled bass tone.  this will be the best two quid you'll ever spend.

I vote for changing to a 1 meg pot too!  Those re-issues Wide Range pups aren't as cool as the originals but they aren't too bad.  Any 'bucker through a 250k pot isn't gonna sound it's best.

It's a simple job - try the 1 meg pot and if you don't like it then swap the pickup.
