I was going to say that maybe you need a pup with a bit more character but I understand that EMG's tend to mask character as they sound much the same in any guitar. Maybe you just want something with a little more balls to it. What exactly is wrong with the MM in your opinion?

I don't know it just lacks something i am happy with the sounds i can get but not COMPLETELY i just always feel as though there is something missing.

and EMGs dont sound the same in every guitar they sound god awful in agathis, nice and ballsy in basswood (85 in bridge..81 sounds thin) and well ivenever tried them in mahogany

I've never tried a Miracle Man, but I'm surprised you find it boring compared with EMGs.

I once got so pissed off with a set of EMGs that I stupidly sold the guitar instead of just changing the pickups.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

its not that i find it boring compared to emgs its just ive never tried emgs in a mahogany guitar and im starting to wonder if the tone of emgs is from mahogany as everyone told me back in the day when i stuck em in basswood.

Nah i believe the thing is i am finding things i cant do with the miracle man... nice low gain stuff sharp bell like cleans....

heres a question is the VHII hot enough for thrash??

because i lovethe lead sound of the VHII and the cleans  :)

Well, I love the EMGs in my guitar, which is a solid mahogany Epiphone LP.  While they tend to have a bit less character, like Philly said, they're great for pure balls out aggression.

But then again, I haven't had a Miracle Man so I can't compare :D

Well FWIW, the guitar I sold was a mahogany Hamer Vector (a V, basically) which sounded awesome with various passive pickups but shitee (IMO) with the EMGs.  I'll never know why I sold it, I honestly think it was temporary insanity.  But I digress...

I learned EMGs aren't for me, but then I'm a middle-aged guy into 70s/80s hard rock, not a young guy into metal (although thinking about it, I was young when I sold that Hamer   ).  EMGs do produce amazing distortion tones, but I think they're one-trick ponies.

And it sounds like a one trick pony isn't at all what you're after. If you want something that cleans up well and is also very heavy perhaps a Holy Diver might be the answer. Having said that, if you like a really Metal sound then I think you might prefer something with a ceramic magnet to cut through the mahogany. The MM really is the obvious choice but if it's not what you're after then we need something else. I'd have said CWP in the past but when I got mine Tim warned me off putting one into a mahogany guitar and ditto with the PK. If you don't like the MM then, like me, that leaves you with a Cold Sweat. It does clean up well and has alot more character to the sound than a MM. It always seems like a much fatter and richer tone to me and if you had a CS in the neck you'd have everything.

To sum up, Holy Diver for the bridge if you want awesome cleans and a Cold Sweat if you want a more vintage Metal sound. I think you'd probably prefer both to the MM but as your requirements sound so similar to mine and I am VERY biased, I'll go for a Cold Sweat  :D

I think this thread could have been approached from a much more tactful standpoint.

Tim pays a lot of money for BK supporters to sound off, get advice, and help one another, as well as have some fun. I think that this thread crosses the line of courtesy and decorum. Locked.
