heavy handed mods

Has anyone else noticed how many threads have been deleted/locked or edited on this forum? It seems to be whenever someone mentions other pickup manufacturers or says something against BKP.
I've lost count of the posts affected over the last couple of months!

i know, you'd think it was their forum or something!

i'd love to see how far a BKP thread would get on the duncan forums... rarely is anything deleted involving other brand pickups... and if you're wondering whether bkp is better than other pickups, you've probably come to the wrong place, the regulars are here because they believe them to be better...

It's amazing how quick some people are to criticise mods or admins when they are only doing their job.

Locked/deleted. Yes, I've locked 3 threads since I've become a mod, and deleted one. I don't see that as being excessive.

Edited. Whoa! I don't edit posts. That is an out and out lie.

With all due respect, you are wrong.

Constructive comparisions between BK and other pickups is definitely permitted within reason. The line is drawn when someone uses the bandwidth BK pays for to promote another pickup manufacturer or to defame BK product. If you feel we are being unreasonable, I apologize for that, but the internet is a big place ... You can go to another forum, as dave_mc suggests, and do what you like if that's what gets you through the day.

It is all down to how the subject is dealt with and approached

As an example if you came into my workshop and in front of lots of potential customers started talking trash about me or my product - you would last about 5 seconds before you got the booot up your arse and shown the door.

Now if you have a problem over something I do or make and want to discuss it discreetly one to one, then I am much more likely to be happy to discuss the issue and be ever so helpful in trying to sort things out

This forum is effectively Tim's/BKP's front room.
He pays the rent and the bills and if he invites you in expects you to be respectful.

But he does want objectivity - it's no use having a forum full of fanboys just saying BKPs rule and all other brands suck.

Discuss tone, frequency ranges, comparative tonal responses of pickups.
Discuss the merits and downsides too
But bear in mind that this is part of the BKP website which is a sales tool for his company.
So be tactful in posting about other brands.

I myself discuss other brands and sometimes shamelessly discuss the guitar stuff I do at Feline, but I am always mindful to keep it related to BKPs and therefore (hopefully) of interest to readers of this forum.
I try to be even handed over stuff and never to detract from the BKP product.
on the upside I also spend a shiteload of money with BKP too!

On the subject of postings about frustration or discontent with pickups...
There are players always chopping and changing their gear - sometimes in a quest for certain tones and sometimes because they are simply frustrated with their own progress as a player or bored with their life and are looking for a quick fix when what they might need to do is practice some more.

Occaisionally there are tactless posts which are sometimes due to youthful exhuberance in expressing stuff and sadly sometimes there re posts that simply lack tact or manners.
Do expect the forum mods to guide the tone in these postings and lock/delete them if they are seen as unsuitable.
