Looking for a new guitar
« on: May 20, 2007, 10:06:25 PM »
K looking for a guitar, 24 fret, Ebony fretboard, thru-neck and a floating trem.

Want ebony specifically cause I've been using a rosewood fretboard all this time, and ebony feels so much nicer. also a through neck as i have quite small hands/fingers so upper fret access to the 24 needs to bee nice and smooth/easy.

So any suggestions? places to buy would also be helpful, thanks!

some aren't 24 frets (27) but I would suggest these Edwards:

E-CY-165CTM
Kiko Loureiro signature E-KL-170SE
E-FR-130GT
E-RV-148

Schecter C1 Hellraiser FR has EMGs and original FR. Not through neck but it's heelless so it feels the same. Tried one the other day (but not the FR) and I liked the neck.

Not sure about Neck Thru - But what you specified is the spec for pretty much every ESP.

Check them out if you can - The M-2 is a superb guitar although the neck may be a bit thick.

If you're open to different woods I would DEFINETLY look at Caparison.

The Dellinger and TAT are 24 fret - While the Horus is 27 fret and H-S.

All have been incredibly well aclaimed - And definetly on my wishlist atm.

Those are my options for 1000-1600 mark dream guitar style things.

For the £800ish market I'd say LTD M1000 - Neck thru but a rosewood fretboard - Then again, most guitars in this pricerange are.

MANY will disagree - But it really is a superb guitar.

My Ibanez RGT42DXFM is also pretty freaking amazing - Mahogany body, flamed maple top, neck thru, maple/walnut neck, rosewood fretboard and a locking trem. Fantastic guitar, although the trem may need replacing.
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.

Philly Q have dealt with Ishibashi guitars in Japan before and he'll tell you it's very straight forward process of telling them what you want and they'll give you quote for shipping and everything.

Yeah that was my thought and that's why I said Edwards. Theyre supposedly between ESP and LTD in terms of quality. Made in Japanese factories by fully trained craftsmen. Edwards guitars tend to be better specced for the same price as well. For example that KL signature guitar has mahogany/maple body and maple neck thru with ebony fingerboard, scalloped from 12th fret. Original FR as well. All for less than £800 delivered.

RGT42 is probably a good idea but I didn't like the neck as much as the prestige profile. Matter of preference really.[/quote]

If we're delving into BC Rich territory take a look at the Assassin - Neck thru, OFR, Ebony Fretboard, and some non-stock pickups....

All for £404.

I wouldn't personally - Would definetly need to know the catch.

does that ikebi link have all the edwards they stock?

ishibashi certainly does a 24-fret edwards with ebony... http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/guitar/esp/edwards/ehr135qm.htm

i haven't tried them, and have no idea how good they are, bear in mind.

i'm not really too sure of any others without going up to big money... esp standard series, jackson, vigier, lag, etc. or you could just go custom build, legra, feline etc.

I'd like to go custom, but I want to get something before my band goes into the studio at the end of June... I'll get a custom eventually and got a design, but need something pretty soon.

I'm gonna buy this off my m8, Its a 1995 Jackson Japanese Standard Professional, and has to have the fastest neck I've ever played on with great access to the 24th. Its a steal at £300. Ebony fretboard, 24 fret, Neck-thru, floating trem. Everything i wanted. He's even throwing in a hard shell case :D

Yep, I've just ordered from them again this morning.  :)

Chris, if you're still considering Edwards - as well as Ishibashi there are 2 or 3 Japanese retailers on eBay who sell Edwards guitars.  Katana Guitars is one of them, they're very efficient and helpful.

That's only if you don't buy the Jackson of course.  Very nice indeed, but what's going on with the strings?  The headstock looks like it has a combover.
