Anyone see them last Saturday night on the BBC?

He was making lots of noises with feedback most of the time, but still good to hear and watch.

Didn't see that but has anyone seen the Guitar World DVD in the shops at the moment-£4.70.It is a track by track how to play Axis:Bold as Love. and a doc on the making of the album- has to be worth a punt. Sorry Johnny, back to thread.

I saw it, it was pretty cool, i like 'All along the Watchtower' tis a great song, though at the start it said he was a musical genius but by the end of the documentary he was a druggy loosing his touch.

I picked it up. It's not much of a documentary, only 10 minutes. The lessons are good though, no tab or anything though. So there's a bit of rewinding to see what he's doing but overall quite good.   8)

Here I am stuck in work till 03:00 am :( and we are not allowed to watch TV during our breaks anymore  :shock:

I have to say when Jimi was playing the blues on that 12 string (mentioned in another thread), he actually looked like he was enjoying himself, which is more than you could say when you saw him in the later performances

My own favourite hendrix track is the jam at the end of the Woodstock album, where they seem to be playing for their own pleasure.

Thought it was an excellent documentary. Interesting to hear how Beck and Clapton (who Hendrix had specifically asked to meet before he agreed to come to the UK) reacted to his appearance.

As Joe said by the end he was a druggy who was loosing his touch. He was depressed that everybody expected him to do his guitar pyrotechnics at every gig. He was also desperately looking for new management and it was hinted he might have been in debt to the mafia.

Begs the question ..... if he hadn't died so early in his career would he still have been so popular today? If he had survived would his life have followed a similar course to Clapton? i.e. still a competent musician but who has lost that 'magic' touch which seemed to exist only when the musician was young and hungry to make it.

I don't think JH would have gone the way of Clapton - more Jeff Beck - his later unreleased stuff has more jazz/funk influence and that apparently is where he was going.

I thought the songs on the docu were almost all covers - could be due to having to pay too much to Janie Hendrix, but it didn't really bring enough of JHs more subtle playing out for me.

I have the Axis video - well worth £4.50 - as the man said, no tab, but Andy Aledort can explain things really well and unlike those signature lick videos the camera angles are just right to pick things up.

The Are you experianced DVD is great (picked it up for 9 quid), I had really hoped that they would do all the Hendrix Releases
