Scorpions Clip - BlackDogs - Shiva - Rola 12-65s
« on: June 02, 2007, 07:57:30 AM »
Some 80s hardrock with my recently acquired 100 EUR cab (G12-65 Rola).

This speaker asked for a Les Paul, some real man's pickups (BlackDogs) and some Scorpions

The Vintage30 sounds lame against it - I think I want some Greenbacks now ...

Sounded great! 8) However, I prefer your clips with the Einstein. :) I don't know if it's the speaker, the amp or the volume level but that sound seems to cut through better.

Awesome tone - love it!  Luvvin' the Shiva  :D

Why do you say the Vintage 30 sounds lame?  :?

I agree with Feline, this is one of Scorpions best and you sound great playing it! I still prefer the Diezel though haha.

Because the Rola 12-65 that was mic'ed in this clip has this dirty upper mid thing going, which is exactly the frequency that I always hate with the V30 and with this speaker it's just awesome...

Haha, I did think of you when I played it Jonathan, thanks for the compliments, could do better but I am also happy given the time invested was quite limited.

Check Jabs' gear when you see them, let us know if he still plays those SLO100s. Still enjoying the SP77?

Volume level, guitar, speaker, many aspects. This Rola65 is old, so it might be a bit softer. Surely the Shiva has less treble than the Diezel, so does the Epiphone have less treble than the P91/92 Gibson Special. When I compared my clip to the original, I realised mine has too much bass, probably should have EQ'ed it a bit ...

Is your Shiva the 6l6 or the EL34?
And did you get the reverb one?

Ha - I'm in a weird sort of amp hell at present - a good one that is
Been trading some gear and am having fun too

I love my racks - one has the Soldano preamp, An Engl E530 preamp,Lee Jackson and a Rocktron Pirhana

I also have my ADA rack which has all the modified MP1s and an MP2

But my main Marshall 2205 JCM 800 has been acting up - all it needs is a good service I think , maybe has a faulty relay - or maybe a loose valve base.  Will have to get that sorted - wonder about swapping it for a Splawn or Bogner Shiva at times - will have to see.

Also spending way too much time on the SLOclone forum and thinking about making a Soldano SLO of my own.

But I just got a Cornell Romany, which will be nice to try agaainst the Wolftone and also an Atomic amp that lets you insert a POD or whatever into a capsule and use it.
So plenty to mess about with

Oh don't even get me started, hahaha.

At the moment I got the Diezel Einstein, the Bogner Shiva (of course EL34 and the non-reverb - the reverb is awesome but expensive and volume drops when you switch it on ... which sucks). Also got the VHT Pitbull, which I love again at the moment ha!

Talking of Cornell, have you seen the new Plexi7 yet?

7/1/0.25 W switchable Class A combo for 645GBP. Tempting tempting ...

G12H30s  8) I just got a 2nd one for my 2x12, and even though its not broken in yet, it allready sounds a lot better than the Eminence its taken the place of.

btw, this clip is really good. Not as nice as some of your other clips in terms of tone imho, the rhythm sounds a bit "boxy" maybe?

edit - the lead tone and playing is awesome

Thanks you say that, I found it really good but now as I'm listening again, it indeed lacks some "crunch" ? I think there's too much bass in the recording which might be it. This speaker is new to me and I gotta  take some time to find its sweet spot.

The non plus ultra in rhythm tone in here is definitely Steve Stevens RY demo, can't be beaten.

Well that's the fun about the whole thing, the PURSUIT of tone, just having it is not half the fun

I'm a bit unconventional as I tend to use S12-150s.
Or better known as Celestion Sidewinders
Have two in my Rivera cab and two Marshall 1912s loaded with them

Very efficient, and very clear - dont hide mistakes at all
Damn loud per watt too - my poor neighbours
Lacks a bit in bass - a trade-off from the high efficiency

They are a bit like a hybrid betweeen a EV and a Celestion

I have a classic 30 in the Wolftone and will be getting a few others to try soon
