Pick-up suggestions for two very different guitars
« on: June 04, 2007, 11:17:03 PM »
i'll keep it brief:

Guitar 1. Fender HH Baritone B to B tuning. The only pick-up that seems to mention low tunings is the Painkiller. Any other faves for baritone voicings? Tim suggested the Crawlers for my regular Jag HH (i want to keep some Fenderish tone and not turn it into a les Paul with a slim body), would they be any good on the baritone version?

Guitar 2: Fernandes Ravelle Elite Dave Kushner Signature. This has a Sustainer pick-up at the neck (which i'm keeping) and a Seymour Duncan at the bridge (which i want to replace with a BK). What will give me a modern tone, Les Paulish but not extreme shredding like a Warpig?

i'll be getting Feline guitars to do them (plus Earvana etc)

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Baritone has to be a Warpig.

As for the Fernandes, maybe a Rebel Yell, though i'm no expert on les paul style pickups.

holy diver for both
works great when downtuned
extremely clear in any tune

i think it's the best, more balanced and all rounded heavy BK pickup
great for any rock/metal style, from late 70's hard rock to modern metal
it's not the hottest, not the tightest, not the heaviest
but it's hot, tight and heavy enough for any metal style and clearer, cleaner and fatter than most BKPs

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Yeah, i'm not bothered with hot pick ups at all or being a shred king, so maybe the Holy Diver might be a goodie. Any other offers...

What sort of music do you play with the baritone?

Crawlers would work for it. They sound very cool in low tunings. If you decide to go with a coil split option, you could get some real vintage Jag baritone sounds.

For the Ravelle, I think Rebell Yells would work best.

i was going to coil split my standard Jag HH - hadn't thought of that for the baritone for some reason, i'll do that - maybe both my Jags will end up with crawlers. Musically i can go from clean/just breaking up Sonic Youth stuff to more distorted stuff like Deftones, but i'm not a shredder or soloist really - just big blocks of sound.
