Charvel logo or Legra Charvel logo
« on: June 12, 2007, 05:50:53 PM »
I have some proper charvel decals (not the waterslide ink cr@p ones) and was going to put one on my Legra but what about this (courtesy of Tom)?

Any thoughts and opinions would be great!!

Cheers

Nice nickname.

I might go for the Charvel/Legra but I have the charvel ones ready at home.

Do I need to apply lacquer over it?

I think it would be nice if Bob Johnson got some kind of visible credit for building the guitar.

It does look a bit like "Cegra" though (sorry Tom   ).  Maybe if the "L" was a bit more vertical and the top of the "E" was extended?  Like this, only much less shitee obviously:
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeah, thats what I thought, I'll have a go at doing it a bit neater in photoshop in a minute :)

about the "todge" nickname, I got it in year 7 because apparently the name tom rogers combined makes todgers, which then got shortened because people couldnt be arsed to say 2 syllables  :?

edit - here it is looking a bit neater.. still a bit messy I guess

I'd say go for the Legra one _tom_ has done, I like the look of it, and as Philly says, ensuring Bob gets visible credit is important - if people like what they see, they might put business his way. If you put the Charvel one on, you could lose the 'interesting-ness' of having a custom guitar.

I was in the same situation as you recently, toying with the idea of putting a Jackson decal on the Warmoth Soloist I'm building. In the end, decided to go with a Warmoth logo - give credit where it's due, I reckon.  :)

I thought the L looked a bit C-ish too - thats much better, I'd go with the Legra/charvel logo
Feline Custom, Fender MIJ mustang bass
Orange rocker 30
VHII and Mississippi queen

Since, presumably, Legra is making a profit on these guitars, I would say that's a pretty blatant case of IP infringement. Tread softly here!

That's kinda what I was thinking too - wasn't there a big Tokai/Fender (or was it Tokai/Gibson?) battle in the early 80s?

Also, making a logo to look a bit like another maker's logo just makes the whole guitar look a cheap knock-off.  Far better IMO to have a simple block Legra logo that couldn't be mistaken for anything else or not have a logo at all. JMO, YMMV etc...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

That point of view did cross my mind as well. I'd certainly come down on the side of putting a Legra logo on the guitar, whether it be this one or a standard one though. Having just had a look at the Legra website, I reckon the standard Legra logo looks pretty good.
