Author Topic: Pros/Cons of using Pedal Connectors? (Read 3315 times)

Hey guys.

I'm in the process of building a new pedalboard and I was wondering what you opinions are on the use of pedal connectors on pedalboards? Are there any Pros or Cons of using these? I know it helps if the pedals are more or less the same height as each other, and have side mounted inputs/outputs, but what other things do I have to consider?

I think its a signal thing but I would go with patch leads so you can move things round a bit. Most people on stage I have seen use normal patch leads too.

the problem i have with mine is mainly that my pedals have different heights...
Also - my v-twin pedal has input and output on the back, and for that it's no good because all your other pedals are facing the wrong way, lol.

Would be great if you had a part of your pedalboard which was just a thousand boss pedals...

Pro - You can get more Boss/Digitech pedals together in a smaller space
Pro - There is minimal signal loss (only for Eric Johnson ears on this one)
Con - They are too rigid together and can cause damage.
Con - You can only connect Boss/Digitech and then in a line and not have them all over the board.

Go with 6in/15cm right angle quality leads (if you have any where you are going from the front to a side jack you might need a 1foot/30cm lead. Get quality cable (personally I loathe the george-L jacks but I know a lot of people like them - if you want I think I have some you can have!). and I prefer heavy duty jacks (even though you won't be pulling them out a lot, I still think they are better). You will be able to position everything exactly where you want it.

Thanks for the info :)

There will be several HBE pedals on my finished board, so I was considering using some of the straight connectors between those, as they're all in the same size boxes :)

Can these things really cause damage to pedals by being too rigid?

To use George L is a VERY good idea, they are incredible! I'm using these gold plated patch leads that cost me only $60 from the USA, which worked out more like £50 including postage and customs charges. They are completley noiselss, it's disturbing. I'm thinking of making my own board soon too, let me know how it goes!

I bought about 7 of the Neutrik straight connecters and they do the job perfectly, providing your using them with the same size of pedals. I don't need them all - how many do you need?

Hello :)

I recently bought a Warwick Rockcase Pedalboard from Thomann and also bought 7 of the straight connectors and 1 'offset' connector at the same time.

I won't know until I rig the whole thing together how many I'll actually need, but thanks alot for the offer :)
