my rig gets simpler and simpler as time passes... i can't imagine to play with less than this:

guitar -> sonic research turbo-tuner (simply the best tuner i ever had, once i understood how the weird strobo leds worked!) -> tonerider american overdrive (i used it to boost my amp but now i use it to have a crunch channel, and it's awesome) -> ISP decimator (thanks to MDV's advice... it doesn't anything to tone and dynamics... just reduces heavily unwanted noise and feedback) -> ENGL Fireball 100 (with the most stupid EQ you could imagine... everything at 1 o clock + low boost on) -> TC electronic G-sharp in FX loop (i discovered i can perfectly live with chorus + reverb on leads and cleans and delay + reverb on solos, so i don't need more complex multieffect units) -> Peavey "el cheapo" 2x12 cab (i ignore what kind of speakers lurk inside it and i don't care... it's middy and reasonably tight, and i like it!)

the hardest thing is to get a good (i know it won't ever be GREAT) rhythm sound and a lead tone that fits my playing style with a single setting, and currently i'm really happy with my rig... amp and fx GAS is temporarily tamed... but i'm feeling more and more attracted to 4x12 cabs, i have to say... a 2x15 + my 2x12 is a fascinating option too!

A Caparison player is awesome in my books.

I'm new here so I might as post the rig shot and introduce myself.

I call this my sound design and writing rig because its at my girlfriends house. I live in Toronto Canada but she lives in Cleveland USA and crossing the border with a lot of gear is a pain so I built this rig to keep myself busy while she's at work, I really have to stay off Craigslist for a while. Of course I've met a number of cool blokes here and now have somewhere to jam when I'm in town so I expect to see the rig change. I've been on one side of the mic or the other my entire life and believe we are living in the golden era of music, we have access to great gear and so many good players and so much amazing music to play. Rock on.

Guitar Gear:
Fender HRR-50 Strat, this one was owned by Phil X of Powder.
100 watt Frazier EL34x4
15 watt custom EL84x2
7 watt custom EL84x2
ACT MP-100 preamp
Rocktron PRO-GAP preamp
Roland GS-5 preamp
Boss GS-10 Modeling preamp and digital I/O
Edirol UA-700 Modeling preamp and digital I/O
dbx compressor
Boss CE-5, CS-3,GE-7, TR-2, RE-3
DOD 15 band stereo EA
DOD 6 channel mixer
Soundcraft 16 channel mixer
2-12 Greenback sealed cab
1-12 ported Jensen vintage
1-12 open back Celestion Lead 90
2-8 ART Attack T28 100 watt carbon fiber cabinet

Plus my mics and midi keyboard gear and 'puter.
Cheers,
Brian
