 I do listen to some metal but rarely play it, I just find it boring and dont feel the need to pretend I'm manly and angry by cranking up the gain and tuning down to drop a :P

I havent played with a true clean tone for ages

There's nothing wrong with metal. But there's nothing wrong with other styles of guitar music either. I can't limit myself to just one style.

Listen to different styles of music, learn to play some of it. Get inspired by it.

Open your mind and your @ss will follow.

Music, to me, is all about energy, vibe and emotion. If I need to get some anger out, I'll play some drop tuned metal. If I'm sad, I'll jam a blues.  Most of the time I just wanna have fun and I'll play AC/DC, rock n' roll and rockabilly.

Being able to play many kinds of music will make you popular in an open mic band.
