I did install a pair of Black Dog Humbuckers into my VOS Les Paul '59. I also have just bought a Lenny Kravitz Flying V '67 with a pair of stock 57' Classics, which they don't satified my that much. I am looking to install new pickups into it. The question is which give more bite to the sound between "Painkiller" and "Miracle Man"?

i remember Crazy_Joe posting about his explorer, and he tried a lot of BKPs and ended with a Painkiller set (which are the closest to stock 500t/496r in gibson explorers and vees)

I tried Holy Driver with my LP Custom, it works really well but I need something hotter this time. MM and Coldsweat sound good. What about Rebel Yell?

The Rebel Yell isn't any hotter than the HD, in fact it's somewhat less hot. It'll certainly give you the bite you want, and I'm sure it would sound good in a V, but it sounds like perhaps you're after something heavier.

I haven't tried any of the high output models, but I believe the Painkillers were voiced to work well in mahogany V-style guitars - think KK Downing!

Between a Miracle Man and Painkiller I'd go with the Painkiller. They're a bit more bassy than the MM and I think that would suit a V better. MM's are a very cutting pup but I don't think they'd work as well as a PK in a V

mm and painkiller or both good choices IMHO

you could decide based on how much mids you like. MM has rather flat mids (some say scooped, but i disagree), and the painkiller has a strong mid range.

hi ,
i had all the following in my 67 V -
miracle man ( too scooped )
painkiller ( mid hump )
cold sweat - nice
warpig - nice
miracle man alnico V - very nice

my favorite was the mm aV - very even tonal response and big organic sound .
not as high output as the regular MM or the painkiller though .
i'd say that would be a good choice going from 57 classics .

i'd advise against the regular MM. i've got one in my faded V. it sounds great of course (its a BKP) but there are better choices. i don't think the MM sounds quite "big" enough.

I agree with this post, MM is not scooped but against Painkillers the first thing you notice will be the difference in mids, even through my scooped eq on my mesa boogie preamp i can hear the mid range kick of the Painkillers.
Both very tight and very high gain pickups though.
Just depends how much mids you like as gwEm stated.

Have you got it installed properly?

the korina could be the difference. then again, i don't know what the 67 is made out of. i thought it was the same as the faded though.

and what could be wrong with the install? if it works it works is what i thought...
