stratty neck pup for tele
« on: July 15, 2007, 09:27:33 AM »
newbie here,
i'm after some new pups for my usa 52 reissue tele, I want a bridge pickup that has all the vintage tele tone together with a neck pickup that hints at the tone of a strat neck pickup.
what would be the best pickups that would work together when played clean and with overdrive,
cheers,
mal.

The Black Guard set is perfect for what you are looking for.  The neck pickup has a lot of Strat tones in it.  There are 2 versions of the brdge pickup. the first is 'Flat Poled', this is like the Broadcaster and is a bit growlier than the 'stagger pole'. However both of them have all the great Tele tones in them.
So many pickups, so little time

is this blackguard tele pup a new line, I can't see it on the site, and how does it compare to the country boys or any other vintage type pup.
I just need a neck pup that 1..works well with say a country boy or a yardbird/brown sugar bridge pup.
2. gives a bit more than a regular neck pup, similar to an apache strat neck pup.
cheers,
mal

In your initial post you had said you were looking for a bridge and neck pickup, that's why I suggested the BG set.  Not sure why they aren't on the products page, here is Tim's note about them coming out http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8051.  The BG neck will work with the other bridge pickups, it is a little more powerful sounding, due to the winding.
