Strats suck - Tele every time.

+1

Not that I don't like a Strat's sound but I hate the vibrato and control lay-out.

heretics all of you - you will all burn!!!!!!

Those schecters were pretty nice strats - whereas 70s teles were big planks of CBS cost cutting.  I'd go with the strat or get a new Mexican Fender Baja Tele.

Definitely the Tele, if it's a lightweight.  Unfortunately most of the 70s ones weigh a ton and have thick, tone-robbing plastic finishes.

Some of those old Schecters looked nice, depending on the finish - don't suppose you've got a pic James?

the telecaster design itself was all about cost cutting!!

There are some fairly nice 70's fenders out there, and some duds as well - always worth trying them out first

I've played 70s Fenders in shops that were heavier than the Les Pauls they had in stock (ouch!).

I do like the sound of Strats, but the feel of them and control layout isn't me - that bridge p/up volume gets in the way too much for me.

I always think the Strat bridge sound is the weak spot, thats where the Tele bridge scores - it's still got twang, but it's got plenty of grunt too.
