Go for offset dots for the inlays!

noted!! - Still nor sure if it will any inlays at all yet.

This morning i have prepared the neck laminates

above we have two zebrano laminates and a whole bocote bass neck blank.  But as you can see the bocotes grain is not ideal for a neck since it is travelling diagonally.  If this where a softer/weaker wood like mahogany i would never consider using it for a neck but since bocote is quite stiff it should still be all right in a laminated neck.  So i have sawn a stip off the side of that neck blank for use in this guitar.  the rest will also be sawn up for laminates

see the colour difference with freshly cut bocote - it starts to darken pretty quickly but is really vomity at first:

and here we have the 3 bits being clamped together:

a few more clamps went on after i took the photo

i have also started gluing the top to the body.

Usually it is a good idea to join both halves of the top and glue them onto the body in one go.  thats certainly the best way to get the tightest joins anyway!!

But this top is splated and quite thin so is more delicate than usual.  Therefore i have decided to glue one half at a time - this means i will need to be extra carefull to make sure i get a good join but makes it a lot easier to deal with the spalt!!

this will probably be done quite quickly - possibly ready for spraying by the end of the week.  I have both halves of the top glued on now and hopefully will be able to give the spalt some protection later on tonight to make it easier to work with tomorrow

What kind of glue do you use? Titebond?

i havnt done a 6 a side headstock since one of my first guitars so it might be worth reviving a headstock i used on that.

strangely - that was a spalted maple top:

the shape of that thing was based on the bigsby merle travis guitar!  Not my best work but i was very happy with it at the time - its owned by my dad now!!

that headstock is great, that gets my vote!

yeah i like that headstock but i agree it doesnt suit the guitar - - early mistakes!!  definately got a peavy vibe..

that was built when i had a very shoddy camera but like i said before, its currently owned by my dad so i might be able to get a better picture - might show the mistakes though

On the spalted superstrat I think a black headstock (maybe even reversed) with no inlays on the neck except one at the 12th fret.

i was wondering whether to veneer the headstock or not, good idea woogie....i am also tempted by using the headstock design posted above with but in reverse - problem is i already have some right handed tuners i have been meaning to use so i might as well have it the right way round.

One good inlay at the 12th is a nice idea - - -  anyone got any inspiration for that!!!
