workin on new stuff... [Black Dog]

need some feedback off this clip, it's the same piece played twice, once with the coilsplit BD, once with the full BD

thoughts on palm muting the start or chords or both or neither????
overdrive/distortion? less/more? open to all suggestions which don't contain the words "needs more of a metal feel"... i'm looking more towards the heavier end of the scale for this stuff, but i'm not intending to go into the death metal region... think more Muse/QOTSA

Cheers

Well, it certainly doesn't sound too metal anyways, so there is no need to spout off about it needing to be more so.  I any case, a little bit of hard criticism here...  You seem to be playing either way faster, in terms of BPM, than your skills can handle or you were being lazy; both of which are fine, i am a more or less beginning player (not implying that you are) so my criticism may not be too valid... but my point still stands, try slowing down the "intro" riff a bit - you will undoubtedly get more clarity, more accuracy, and maybe even have a little bit more of an idea on how the song should proceed (you can always speed it up later).

The overdrive is more or less dead on for the feel though, i think.  It has much more of a punky vibe than anything, almost a proto-New Wave sound (just slower), so that amount of boost works well for it.

i think the gain needs a bit fo a restructure; The chord work sounds bang on, but for the palm mutes the sound really doesn't accentuate them; maybe hit harder and add some compression, or just try playing with the master and the gain controls. I don't know - you may have intended for it to sound the way it does, but i prefer palm mutes to sound tight and use them to accentuate un-muted notes, which is something i don't think you could do with that sound...

Like the choon tho btw
