Tonight was possibly one of the saddest nights of my life -
Michael Schenker is now officially dead as one of my heroes

I went to see MSG & Scorpions at Hammersmith
Schenker was so bad - he couldn't even play at all
I have seen this man move me to tears with the beauty and majesty of his playing over the years .

Tonight I was in tears again - frustration and feelings be being robbed and somehow betrayed and let down.
He was late on stage , and clearly not capable of much
The sound was all over the place - no-one seemed to suss out what was up although I realised that MS had his delay , chorus and Wah all on whilst playing  bits where they shouldnt be on
He even crouched down to fiddle with stuff and it just got worse - like he was sabotaging himself.

His tech (looked like his son) eventually came and switched off all the pedals after many in the crowd started jeering at him - ok sadly I was among the number.

But what was then exposed was that Michael couldnt even play simple riffs
The band quickly switched to their last number after only 15 mins on stage  and MS made Doctor Doctor sound like it needed to go to the hospital in a hurry

The band then left the stage - not a moment too soon.

I felt so sorry for his brother who i guess was giving Michael a last chance by letting him open the tour for the Scorps.

By the way - the scorpions were superb and played a longer set - possibly to make up to the fans who were short changed by MSG

They played 6 or more songs with Uli Roth who looked a bit like Papa Smurf, but still had the playing skills that made him a legend - still showing his obsession with Jimi Hendrix though)

What time did MSG go on stage?  I got held up in the silly queue outside (if we'd all been struck by lightning or something the average age of London would have gone down by about 10 years... :roll: ) so didn't get in until 7.30.  When I got there I thought the "band" on stage was a bunch of roadies messing about - until I realised that the shambling figure in camo pants, hoody, cap and shades was Michael Schenker... Oh God.

Yes they were great....Uli is great but so hasn't moved forwards in many ways.

Hearing Pictured Life/Speedys Coming/In Trance and We'll burn the Sky was good.....Dark Lady was as bad as it was when I first heard it over 25 years ago. Would have liked for them to play "Sails of Charon"

I think it was hard on a lot of the audience to have him play so many numbers one after the other - they felt a bit lost.

I think it showed how much of a tighter band the Scorps became after Uli left - the first signs of that shift were there on Taken By Force but that is what Uli hated and why he left.

Rudolph once again showed what a great entertainer should be - he was pretty funny - like a muppet playing guitar but he never missed a beat.


So sad about Michael though!

:D Glad you said that about "Dark Lady" i thought i was the only one who didn`t like it !

Actually the Uli era Scorps for me at least are very hit & miss. They became a much better band after he left.......still would have loved to see him & them playing "Speedys Coming" & "Well Burn The Sky".

I think that's what they were playing as I got in (it was hard to tell  :? ) so I didn't really miss anything.  Unfortunately.

Rudolph once again showed what a great entertainer should be - he was pretty funny - like a muppet playing guitar but he never missed a beat.

And Pawel Maciwoda was fantastic - he's like a crazy little gnome charging around the stage larking about.  He and Kottak seem to have really given the band an adrenaline charge.

It was great to see how healthy and energetic the whole band look - yes, there's a degree of slick "professionalism" about their show, but here are 5 middle-aged guys who, after 30-plus years (admittedly with a few line-up changes) look like they actually want to be there and like they still enjoy playing music with each other.  Brilliant!  :D

Thank christ I didn't bother to scr@pe the cash together to see him in Belfast.

Could be the curse of the Vs actually as Wishbone ash where somewhat similar the 2nd time I saw them

I remember seeing John Martyn in a similar state one night, I ended up where I just couldn't listen to him ever again it was so bad

:( sad indeed. but i was there myself a few months ago.

i must admit i like a few sherbets myself from time to time (who doesn't...), but only did one show where i was actually drunk (after i split up with a girl i was seeing). the show was ok, but i was ashamed of myself... it wasn't so fun for me to play as it usually is either.

i promised myself no more booze and performances, even just one to get over stage fright. playing live music is better than boozing anyway.
