Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to replace the pu'ps in my les paul studio which is made of Maple. I would like to nail that Zakk Wylde tone for Rythem on the No More Tears Album, but I want a Searing lead tone like Joe Satriani on the song Big Bad Moon. I was thinking of getting a war pig in the Neck and a Miracle Man in the bridge but I'm not sure...theres just so many too choose from and I know nothing about Pu'ps Lol. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.  8)

P.S. I play in a Hard Rock/Metal band.  :roll:

I would say Miracle man set, or a Miracle Man bridge/Cold Sweat neck will do what you are looking for. Getting that Satch neck tone from a LP is going to be difficult regardless of pickups.

I'm kinda leaning towards the MM calibrated set now, but I've read that it isn't got a great clean tone, just I play some ballads  :oops:  and so I will need a good clean sound, and also when at my guitar lesson we keep everything nice an clean, but it will mostly be used for that Zakk sound for metal. Would the Cold Sweat give a nice clean tone?  :D

i fitted a miracle man to my steinberger last night...

its true the cleans aren't /amazing/ like an unpotted stormy monday... but they are decent and very usable, better than alot of stuff out there... certainally noticeably better than the dimarzio super distortion than was in there. in the players forum there is a clip of a clean miracle man, which i feel is a pretty good representation.

in the steinberger the tone is very thick. sounded very much like "breaking all the rules" on no rest for the wicked.

never tried a cold sweat, so its hard to say. but it has a good reputation for nice cleans.

Thanks, looks like I'm gonna be ordering a set 2nite...I guess I'll get the MM and next month if I feel the need to I could get a CS and try that too!   :lol:

As far as the neck pup is concerned, the Cold Sweat is ideal. It's hot enough to really scream but isn't overly powerful so retains a great deal of tone and provides some lovely cleans. It is a very popular chioice here and with good cause. Personally I think that a MM would be a mistake if you like to use good clean tones at the bridge as well. I would have thought that you're better with an Alnico V pup rather than ceramic as they are more versatile and you shouldn't need the cutting edge of a ceramic pup in a non-mahogany guitar. If you want something super powerful I'd look at an Alnico V Warpig and if you don't need such huge power I'd consider the Holy Diver, which is another extremely versatile pup and should do what you're after very well.

I've just ordered the MM set, I think its gonna be a case of trial and error to be honest, don't get me wrong I'm not dissmissing anybodys info or anything like that, and I guess my guitar will be overdriven 99.9% of the time, lol. Tim has got back to me as well, he said the Miracle Man humbucker sit will be perfect for you-clip attached.
These humbuckers have masses of power and pinch harmonics simply jump out of them.  :D
