delay pedal question
« on: August 05, 2007, 10:58:38 PM »
before i start this thread, I have to say i am not too keen on yngwie these days but i have to admit that i started playing guitar when i've watched alcatrazz live vid when i was 16. i once believed he was a god o.O check out his solo from 3:35, probably the best guitar solo that he ever played in his entire career (he was only 21 then).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQpoNtw0IuY

I understand that he used roland echoplex in his rig and i would like to know how he produced that awesome sound at 8:43 in this youtube clip? i know that normal analog delay can produce the effect at around 8:17 (like how joe satriani tries these dayz) but i could never figure out how to get that torturing sound at 8:42. is it something that normal delay pedals can't do?

after watching that clip I can only say one thing... "In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, lived an ancient race of people... the Druids. No one knows who they were or what they were doing..."

his tone was really good actually, the playing... err... well, does nothing for me.

that thing with the delay pedal at the end can be done with any delay pedal I've ever owned.

he used ROLAND DC-10 ANALOGUE ECHO and apparently deluxe memory man can duplicate that crazy effect sound. well i guess all analog delay pedals can produce similar effect. in my experience, i never had a good time with EH product, they suck tone like anything!!

will - I actually wanted one of those diamond pedals. tap tempo switch is really tempting as well!! but wut they claim original 3005 chips isn't japanese panasonic ones but they've used cheaper chienes version and they r nearly 500 bucks!! that put me off a bit.

ratrod - that roland space echo looks really interesting, could you tell me more about this pedal if you have tried it?

Sounds like he is playing with the delay time & feedback/regen knobs there.

Most analogue delays should be able to manage that, however I havn't found a digital delay that allows you to do that (they sort of squawk a bit and do nothing useful)

hence I want rid of my DD-6 despite the long delay times, so I can get something I can have much more fun with.

I know of (atleast) 2 Delay pedals that can do the self oscilation thing that Yngwie does in that video clip:

Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo - I have 1 of these myself and use it for that exact reason. I'm not a big user of Delay in a 'traditional' sense, but don't really like the sound of this pedal when used that way anyway, but for the self oscilation stuff it's great :)

HBE Mimic Analogue Delay - All the clips/videos I've heard of it sound great, and it also does the self oscilation thing very well too. If I used more 'traditional' Delay I'd buy 1 myself :)
Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

Yeah - save your money get the DE7 it does that sound easily (alternatively look at the cut sheet on the Ibanez website and apply the setting to your own delay).

I like the DE7 in echo mode with very low delay settings - instant late 60s garage sound.
