Who's got an Edwards?
« on: August 12, 2007, 02:51:43 PM »

Look what i just ordered!
It's the second most beautiful LP style guitar I've ever seen! (the first being that turquoise Feline lion)

I've only ever heard good GOOD things about Edwards guitars, and they look so delicious; I'm really appealing for another side to the arguement that Edwards guitars are incredible, and better than (m)any of their USA counterparts.
I also want to ask for details on the Laquer Taste series (which my guitar is from). Is it a nitro finish, a thin poly finish, or a nitro over a poly? what's going on?
This guitar is undoubtably getting Zebra mules, leaving my Greco custom styled LP open for crawlers or black dogs. :D
I'm so excited - should be here in a week or two!
LOVING the Mules!

I think the laquer taste is a nitro top with a poly back and sides (I may be completely wrong, I've not heard of nitro on poly but this may also be a possibility).
I'd have raw nickel covers though, they'd look awesome with that finish.

this one's 8.37lbs, which seems kinda medium-light; I think that's a pretty good weight for a guitar to be, lol. I've heard lighter mahogany sounds better because it's from the top of the tree and is less compressed or something, is there any truth in that?
It'll be a stark contrast to my 11lb MONSTER greco.

raw nickel's an option too...or zebra in bridge, with raw nickel in neck...

just as likely to be different trees and even different species of mahogany that are making it lighter.  its all just natural variation!!

Thats what makes hand selection of guitar woods quite important to me.  If its too heavy it can be lightened with chambering but if its to light (quite rare with mahogany) there are less options for making it heavier without purposely adding weights

the Lp looks nice!!

Whatever mahogany it is that Edwards use, it always seems to be very lightweight.

I don't have an LP type, but my two Edwards Vs are so lightweight I almost wondered if they were made of balsa.  They're good and resonant though.

Re the finishes, I'm not sure but I think Gingataff's right that they only have nitro on the tops.  And re nitro-on-poly, I was reading on a relic-ing site the other day that Fender's US vintage reissue (and possibly also Highway 1) guitars are nitro topcoats over some kind of poly.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeah but I have two and I have other guitars in my sights at the moment-having said that, I was playing a nice 1966 Fender Precision yesterday and the old credit card was a fluttering in my wallet.

that does look nice - i keep saying i will do another explorer but havnt gotten around to it yet.

Not sure if its just my monitor - but the black looks a bit patchy around the arm rest area.  ruins a nice simple looking guitar for me
