I recently had to play with a lot of other guitarists at an event where most of us had to plug in to transistor amps - something I've never done before or ever expected to do. I didn't know why everyone was sounding like a wasp in a jar until I found out there were no valves in the amps, but then it made sense. By contrast my sound was almost embarrassingly focused and I turned down to try to find a balance with the others. There was no time to learn how to drive the amp, so I just middled all the control, hoped for the best, and did the rest on the guitar. And maybe the sound worked because I was getting a honky out of phase tone with a PG Blues and MQ together.
Anyway, after I'd done my bit, I was pleased when someone told me that of all the guitars, mine had sounded pretty good and really stood out, with a kind of Albert Collins bite, he said. Not sure that's suitably respectful to Mr Collins, but very kind of the bloke, especially considering I was too pissed and useless to play anything worthwhile on it.
But it certainly did come across well even through those cheap amps (no names, no pack drill). Sort of a wierd accolade for Bare Knuckles since I doubt anyone who uses a tranny (other than jazzers maybe) would would bother to go for BKPs, but it says something about them all the same. I'm so impressed with mine.
