Strat wiring

alright guys. I wanted to wire in a set of pickups into my strat. The only thing I disconnected to get it all together was the bridge pickup, earth wire to back of guitar and the jack socket.

I wired it all back together and I get a buzzing when taking my hands off the guitar. Sounds to me like it hasn't been earthed right. So I tried again and it still happens.

Could some one help me with this.

There's a JB junior in the bridge, so the green wire goes to the pickup selector and the black and shield wire to the back of the pot. Then a black lead from the back of the pot to an earth point on the back of the guitar. Then a black and white wire to the jack socket. Does this sound right?

If not, what could I do?

defnately an earth problem - it might be worth getting a multimeter out to check the continuity of all the earth wires.

My guess is that the wire connected to the trem has come loose

doh!!  on duncan pickup the black wire should go to the pickup selector and the green to the back of the pot.

they are both opposite ends of the pickup so it shouldnt really matter which way round they go, other than obvious phase issues - but on some pickups it does matter because of the way they are sheilded

I'll try that out wednesday. The strat I'm wiring is my favourite and I've had it about 7 years now. Can't stand not being able to play it.

if it wasnt astrat i would just suggest keeping you hand on the bridge so you can play it till you fix it..

..i actually had this response from a guitar shop years ago.

"excuse me but my guitars buzzes when i dont touch the strings"

" well keep your hands on the strings then!!"

obviously i wasnt happy with that answer.  Its no wonder i started learning to do it myself
