Off to see the Stones!
« on: August 18, 2007, 09:23:09 AM »
Like it says, i'm headin away today to see the Rolling Stones at Slane (in Ireland, for those who don't know).  i wasn't sure if i should go or not, but i figure it's the last chance i'll ever have to see them, which is the same reason i went to see Ozzy and it was a great show!

thing is, i was gonna take a raincoat, but it looks like i'll be needing a wetsuit and a rubber ring!  and maybe a canoe...

anyway, i'll let you all know how it goes.

and maybe then i'll tell you all about my new guitar

I went to see the Stones because it could be my last chance to see them live.

That was three years ago.

They still rock though. Seeing Keith play live is an increadible experience. Ron Wood can really rip it up when he's in a good rock n' roll mood.

If you happen to meet Mick Jagger before the show, tell him to button up his shirt! He ain't in his twenties anymore.

i'm finally home! and i have the hangover from hell!!! i don't drink when i go to gigs, but i started on the Jameson when i got back to my friend's house at two in the morning and me an her finished off two bottles by nine this morning  :?

anyway, the Stones.  missed most of the supports because we got delayed, but did see the Charlatans.  wish we'd been delayed longer.

Then the oul fellas themselves ambled on stage!  i wish i'd seen them at their height cause they're pretty damn good now!  kicked off with "Start Me Up" and finished over two hours later with, if i remember right, "Brown Sugar" and were very few dull moments in between.  Keef even sang a couple of tunes, one of which was good, the other of which wasn't so much, but hey, how many people half his age are even half so damn cool!  Ronnie Wood played some great leads and Keef's playing was it's usual shambolic "how does he make that sound like a song?" self! and the stage went walkabout half way through, which was kinda funky!

highlights for me were an excellent Paint It Black, Sympathy for the Devil, Jumpin' Jack Flash and Dead Flowers.

Glad i got to see them before they finally shuffle off this mortal coil, and it was well worth slogging through ankle high muck and even enduring the highly tedious Charlatans.

oh, another highlight was the sexy wee chick covered from head to toe in mud!  she was cool, i liked her.

Excellent Blue, I have seen them a couple of times and Keef is such an icon, he doesn't need to do anything other than play there and he'd be cool. I have always loved Ron Wood's playing too being a Faces fan and all-catch him on a good night and he is superb. The steam train at the back (Charlie) is vital that that Stones swing that they have. I am not a fan of Jagger but he is so much to do with what they are that I can live with that. Any pictures of the mud laden young lady?

i admit i have seen much muddier fields, but this was the nice clean bit, the muddy place was round the corner.  and it was enormous fun trying to walk back up the by then very slippery hill in the dark after the show!  wish i'd got a better picture of her, in the flesh she made me feel all peculiar!
