Hi all

I got myself a Kramer Jersey Star recently, which is based heavily on the old Kramer Sambora sigs. For some reason, i just can't get a good classic rock tone going through my marshall JCM 2000!!!!

I was thinking rebel yells, but the guitar is maple body AND neck, so would this be too bright???

Suggestions please!!!

Oh, and i'm looking for bridge, middle, and neck humbuckers!

I think you're going to get a lot of subjective replies on this one because many people will comment that maple is X or Y, even though they've never played an all-maple guitar.

Personally, I don't think that the guitar will be 'overly bright' and that Rebel Yells would work really well in that guitar!

The thing is, this is the first all maple guitar i've ever played, and while i like the tone itself, it just sounds weaker than the tones i can get from my other guitars!!!

How would a crawler / cold sweat set go....with something in the middle?

i think maple is 'overly bright' for a lot of players but thats a subjective thing.

if you like the all maple sound then rebel yells will work well with that - if you dont like the all maple sound then a darker pickup may help tone it down... but i feel its generally a loosing battle when people start trying to change the inherent qualities of a guitar. you can tweak it a little but it will still have the characteristics of an all maple guitar (not necisarily a bad thing)

others will tell you that you can do anything with the right pickup, i'm not so sure!

Great guitar, i have played one and remember the stock pickups being pretty lifeless. Being a Sambora fan i would suggest the new Holy Diver's. Really warm and fat with enough gain to really hit that amp hard. Great clean tone as well. Also if your guitar is acoustically bright they will help beef it up. My Les Paul was quite bright so i tried a set of HD's and the sound is really massive now. Its a similiar tone to what Richie would use in the 80's, they will do so much more as well. Check out my HD demo in the players room.

I was thinking Holy Divers too, i find that i can get a great rock tone aswel as achieving their awesome metal tones.

can't help with the pickups, but (like always :lol: ) you're 100% correct on the all maple guitar. I tried that jersey star a couple of times recently, and if anything, it was warmer sounding than a basswood ibanez rg1570 with rosewood fretboard. was actually a really nice balanced tone.

i don't know how you couldn't get a hard rock tone with the stock pickups? They're no BKP's, but i thought they were pretty nice for stock pickups... EDIT: though the stock bridge pickup was possibly a little bright (i tried it unplugged too, i know it wasn't the guitar)...

i've got an all maple strat type guitar and a couple of others that are nearly all maple. i wouldn't say they're overly trebly, but the mid-range is definately different, smoother i think. mahogany seems to have more upper mid thump while the maple, um, doesn't! that's my impression anyway.
