What 12inch speakers (need 2)would be good alrounders....also have two amps both 60w valve amps....so if I wire say two 30w vintage 30's speakers to one amp will it blow them...sorry new to this cab thing

I find the Celestion Classic Lead 80 to be a very versatile, all round speaker :)

the reissued G12-65s are great all rounder speakers.

the Vintage 30s are awesome speakers, very versatile indeed - they just seem to excel at every style.
Only thing to bear in mind is that they can be quite harsh at low volumes.
The thing i did to counteract this was to have one V30 and one G12H, which is much smoother in my 2x12.

I did that in both my 2x12 cabs, one vintage 30 and one G12H. Sounds great. They work well together.

Vintage 30 alone: good for any overdriven/distorted sounds, I would say it's the 90s/00s sound

Vintage 30 /G12H30: good allrounder combo, still better at non-clean than on clean sounds IMO

G12M25: Great rock speaker, also awesome cleans, less useable for downtuned metal stuff as it has a more 70s tonality

G12-65: In between a G12M and a G12T75, great allrounder for all styles, very transparent as well, I think this is "the" 80s speaker

I went from V30/G12H30 Combo to G12M-25/G12-65 and am very happy, it's got nicer clean and crunch tones, though is less tight in the bass region (which is not so important in band context anyway).

I think the ideal for me would be to have two 2x12s, the lower having G12H/V30 and the upper having G12M/G12-65 (the upper being closer to the ear to compensate the 2-3 dB less that those speakers produce compared to the V30/H30 combo).

Am I being too complicated? :roll:

At low volumes at home, I'm liking the G12H speakers. Nice and thick sound, good all round.

For gigging, I still swear by well broken in Vintage 30s. Tight and punchy :D

For a 60w amp that isn't enough power handling in the speakers if you're going to wind it up. At low volumes you'd be OK but you'd have to watch you didn't blow the speakers.

For wiring, it depends what impendence you want the cab to be and what impedence your speakers are. You could get a cab to be 4,8 or 16 ohms.

here we go, use either 2x8 Ohm speakers to wire for 16 Ohm (series) or 4 Ohm (parallel) or use 2x16 Ohm speakers to wire for 8 Ohm (parallel).

Note that the total wattage will be 2x the lower wattage of the two speakers, i.e. on a G12H/V30 cab you can get 60W (2x30 from the lower G12H rating).
