Would just like to know what cables are good, not going over the top £££, 10-20ft leads I guess
£50 a good enough budget?
any makes/models that are good?
and websites/shops that stock them would be good too if anyone can

I use custom planet waves leads really good quality. Monster are very good too. If you want a less trebley tone, try a 100ft foot lead.

This used to be my cable, it's a bit stiff but sounds really good and is great quality.

Since about a year I use exclusively VoVox, which are very expensive but deliver awesome sound quality and are very flexible.

Ehm, 100ft lead used with a passive pickups guitar will sound cr@p. As far as my experience goes 6m is a good length - if you use effects before the amp I would go 6m and make sure I have at least one pedal with a good buffer amp (good means not Boss Pedal or Dunlop Wah buffer). But that's just me ...

Some blues player (I forget the name) uses 100ft leads into a Fender Twin to roll off the treble a bit. It was in a magazine, will try to find it. Don't the coiled leads give warmer tone also?

I used Monster Cables for ages, but they are NOT cymbal proof!!! They got stolen also, so I now use DiMarzio cables... they are pretty damn good for the cost.

Hmmm, fair enough ... I'd still prefer using the tone pot or amp EQ though ...

Albert Collins (RIP) used 100ft leads to roll off the treble into his cranked Super Reverb. Also allowed him to walk out into the audience and play, or do his favourite trick of playing outside the venue. Great player, awesome tone - totally unique style. He used some wierd tuning too with the guitar capo'd up high (open Cmin seems to ring a bell).

As for cables, I just buy Van Damme cable from Maplins and get some Neutrik plugs. I've tried George-L cables and they were WAY too bright and coiled up all the time. I've used my own 'homebrew' cables for the past 10+ years - they sound great and don't cost the earth.

I've got planet waves but I dunno how they compare to other brands but john petrucci uses them in his monster rig so that must say something (not sure what though, I guess that makes my comments useless lol)

I read last night on some youtube comment that cables with all metal connectors are less noisey than plastic covered ones, is there any truth to this or is this someone talking rubbish?

man, i even notice a trebel rolloff when going from my 12' to my 20'. I find planet waves cables suck ALOT of trebel.

Try mogami cables, they're cheaper than monsters and have less effect on your tone than monsters do. :):):). I got one of these and never bought another monster again... theyre too expensive.
Gotta love them FAT gauge cables.

I've been using the same 2 Whirlwind leads since 1995 without a single problem with them. They're the best leads I've ever owed.

All my cables are George L's, yes they can be a bit bright sounding but they really brought my rig to life..

I like them so much i became a dealer.

I use George Ls in my loop but never in front as they take away the low-mid punch of my BlackDogs :twisted:
