Hunter mentioned Sommer Spirit and I also like Klotz La Grange. There are some silly priced cables out there though.

George L's are good for pedalboards IMO.

I use a cheap wireless with cheap patch cables and cheap 20ft cables in the FX loop.  The only decent cable I have is a Planet Waves one which goes between the Big D and amp.  It all sounds fine to me.

TBH - I swear that the whole 'treble loss' thing is psychological on anything under 30ft.  Yeah, it does affect your tone to an extent but who has the treble on their amp up to 10?

Andy!

Van Damme cables are excellent; 99.99% OFC, no handling noise and totally faithful reproduction.

I agree. Also the strings thread a few months back. Can anyone really hear the difference from one brand to another from a fresh set of strings? Maybe it'll all go Eric Johnson in here and they'll be a thread, 'Which batterys give the best tone in an overdrive pedal'  :?

I agree to a certain extent; if you stay away from really shitety cheap cables everything else is pretty much the same in terms of treble response. But I have three reasonable quality cables right here that definitely have different characteristics partlicularly when used wtih electro- acoustic guitars. My band use Van Damme for guitars, microphones and speaker cables because they meet the criteria for what is known as "broadcast quality" reproduction. that is the sound is not coloured in any way by the cable. One of the key factors in this is reducing handling noise. The way the screen is laid up affects its impedence when it is bent, moved, or compressed which can affect the resulting sound and generate noise. Our lead guitarist is a session guitarist and recording engineer and as a result is totally anal about cables; even to the way they are coiled and stored after a gig so I guess some of it has rubbed off. If you want to get onto strings (another good thread) most of them come out of a handful of factories from the same wire and the same machines.

String wise, there is certainly a difference. GHS sound different to rotosound. although I can't tell much difference between Rotosound and Erny Ball, Erny Balls cost more, and seem to break faster

I've always used EB's and never had them break. I just change them when they get dull. I still can't hear the difference from different makes if they're new and the same gauge. It's all marketing.

Maybe I got a dodgy lot, 2 of my EB pack broke within the first week. and since rotosound give an extra free 1st string and cheaper...

I think the BBC and Abbey Road both use Van Damme cabling in (some of) their studios - it was in the VD bumph I got way back.  I've  never used anything else for yonks now - it just gets the job done with no fuss, is tough enough for road use and has good handling noise.

Oh, another vote for VD cable - last time I was at the Leeds festival I noticed that many of the looms were Van Damme.

Man, i can hear a difference and that is why i $%&#in hate Ernie Ball strings, they sound like shite.  I haven't tried out too many brands, but they are awful, everything in comparison sounds better.
