Any JTM45 users round here?

Quote from: FELINEGUITARS
Just found a picture of my old JTM45
I got it for a low price and foolishly sold it when I was hard up about 10 years ago - I have kicked myself many times over that

It was slightly older than me  (serial no 3143) and was supposed to be a bass amp, but did sound rather good with guitar.

To make things worse I also sold an old Sound City 4x12 which had original Celestion G12 speakers in (from about 1967/8)

I feel for you man, I sold my '67 plexi to Music Ground for £1600 around four years back.  I still cry when I think of that one, what an amazing amp.

On the good side, my '76 Superbass gets pretty close and everyone that hears it says it's the best Marshall they've ever heard.  Unfortunately for me, I've had a '67 plexi that was f'in amazing.

Twin/Dave (did I get it right this time?) just a quick question, do you think a 4 x 12" of greenbacks would work well with this amp? I think it would give a nice warm rounded sound, but having never owned a cab or anything like this would appreciate the help

You got it right mate  ;)

Greenbacks would sound good - nice and warm.  That would have been the original pairing for the amp.

horsehead are you getting a Martin to build you a Metro JTM45 kit? Do you know if you'll get charged for customs and VAT for them? How much is it going to cost you altogether? I've heard a few people say you don't get charged for customs or VAT for kit items. Thinking of building a 1987 myself and I heard that Metro's instructions are much better than others.

twin's really the man to ask on this as he's already had the set put together. From what I can remember from Martin though he's got some kind of deal with Ceriatone set-up...I may have that wrong though. From my expreience you'll always get charged import tax etc.

Anything over about £50 gets charged import tax - guitars/amps/parts/shoes - anything.  To calculate it, it's:

(Cost of item + shipping) x 1.037 x 1.175 + £25 = total cost

which is:

(Cost of item + shipping) + 3.7% import duty + 17.5% VAT + £25 handling fee for the courier/Royal Mail = total cost

Speaking hypothetically, if someone was to label a package as "Engineering Sample", then there is only VAT to pay, plus normally about £6 admin in the case of DHL.

Also, the VAT is charged at the stated invoice value, which it might be possible for the sender to make a mistake with....hypothetically. They might put a value of, say $100 on an amp for instance.

My prices have sneaked up a little....
However, as you spoke to me about it a while back, I'll try to get in or around the prices we talked about  :D  which I can't remember now!

My new day job...oh blimey, there's a story. TF can tell you   ... is slowing me down a bit now too.

I will get a 60's plexi at some point, just gotta wait until I inherit a ridiculous amount of money from bill gates in a random selection of his fortune when he dies.

The '45 is great in my blues band.  I use it on about 2 or 3, which is pretty clean, then add pedals for overdrive.  Lovely sweet sound, very Fender-y.
