Is there a huge difference it is for home recording on the fly. tonelab seems compact. But the LE is new.

Does it come close to JCM 800

The LE is supposed to be 24 bit compared to 20 bit of the others. I just won an LE and I have a 2205 so I'll be able to tell you how that compares.

le has one less pedal, is smaller more compact is 24bit not 20(se),
has a master eq(to adjust to what your putting it though, i.e. a mixer, american amp etc) with preset settings that are adjustable as well(se doesn't),
also has a couple of extra's for metal as well I think(one being a metal distortion)

i thought the jcm800 model on the SE was the least convincing one there. I do have a real '800 though; i might just be picky. The UK80s model is good; maybe even one of my favourites, but not true to the original i dont think

Never played an SE but having just assessed all the modellers for my own purscase I can say that the JCM800 model is awesome - easily the best I tried. It is a little limited in some areas though, hence I went elsewhere but I doubt you'd be disappointed.

For myself, I like the Pod effects but don't like the amp sims (even though there are some excellent clips on here that use a Pod), but thats personal opinion (what can I say my Spider amp poisioned me)

I think the main conclusion was it's a very personal thing, and everybody hears something different. The best thing to do is to get out there and try them.

With Korg (read Vox) theres usually 2 banks one of factory presets (which can't be changed) and one of user adjustable settings. On the Pandora (which I own) theres 2 banks of 50, the 1st set are the presets, and the 2nd are the user adjustable.

In reality 50 is quite a lot of presets (outside of studio use) especially when you can just turn off fx within the preset when as nessicary. I only really ended up creating about 10 of my own. Those cover most eventualitys.

have had podxt and all addons..for me the pod is jack of all trades master of none, where as the vox has a lot less but what it has it does well

After all the time I investigated these units I came to two broad conclusions:

1. It is all very subjective and it depends what are the main sounds you are looking for.

2. None of these units are ideal. They each have something to offer and none cover everything. The Pod is very digital and I found contained loads of fizz but the online support is superb. The GT8 is hugely versatile and has probably the best effects but the amp models aren't so good in my opinion , it's complicated to use and the computer interface isn't as good as it could be. The Tonelab easily has the best tube tones but it's a pain that you can't use a Wah and Distortion effect at the same time and the high gain models aren't so good. The Digitech is kind of inbetween the Vox and the Boss. Great amp models with far more variety than the Vox but not as good overall, though the hi-gain ones are ceratinly better. The effects are very good but not quite what the Boss offers. It is great for home recording, possibly the best but there is a noticeable lag when switching patches that will turn many people off. That really is a big let down on it. You simply have to arrive at the best compromise to suit your style and needs.

If you're like me you will find modellers to be very frustrating to compare but in reality, they all offer a good product and they are all very useable in their own way. I would conclude that as far as modellers are concerned, guitarists are now offered a very good product for reasonable money but they still have a little way to go before I would be totally satisfied with one. I'm sure that day will arrive though.

I finally got round to tweak with the Tonelab LE I got last week a bit. I made a patch and made a quick recording of it. Tonelab into Line6 Toneport into computer. I didn't have a midi to USB cable so I had to use the Toneport! It's the US Higain model which I think is the Soldano SLO. You know what's coming now don't you?

I quite like the Tonelab but it still doesn't sound like a real amp maybe it's because I'm using a closed headphone. It might sound better with an active monitor or something. More tweaking to do later!

I found that all the modellers out there struggled to a degree with fizz, which made them rather digital in nature. Try a Harmonic Converger with it. It certainly improved my GNX and you can find an example of what it does to a Tonelab here:

What about that Zoom G9.2tt? is that any good? it has *gasp* two tubes in it!

I've been looking at it a lot recently, it looks sturdy and user friendly, with a few niche features, a local top guitar tutor uses that through a JC120 and says it sounds amazing... yet to hear it myself...

Has anyone tried one?
