Is this the best amp of all times, ever?
« Reply #30 on: February 07, 2008, 02:31:35 PM »
Played one cpl months ago and was'nt overly impressed.
Course the concept is great but it seemed to lack somewhat the feel/tone of a 'single purpose' amp.
Also, and this is not proven just experience in mechanical field, switching out modules could in long run cause problems. Breaking contacts on a reg. basis can cause loose fitting parts and shorts, but of course this is just my overal speculation.

I've not heard anyone on the forums complaining about anything like this yet.

I'll have to take extra special care

I never heard a single bad review from an owner, neither regarding sound nor regarding reliability - even in the unlikely case that something went wrong, the guys at Egnater are great when it comes to servicing their loyal customers.

But hey, there's no harm in being careful and sweet to the babe when you're switching out the modules.

Those clips are really good.  That's EXACTLY what you need when creating a shortlist...

Ditto the Randall comments.  I was really tempted by the 100 watt modular Randall combo, but it was well over a grand at the time.  Potentially the same price as the 50watt version of the Egnator in the UK?

I'd be really tempted though.  Very nice.  Don't buy into the Jack of All Trades, Master Of None.  I think that with things like this you're not cloning a sound, you're getting into that particular ball park, then making it your own.

how much are they in the UK then? The US prices are there but in the UK there is always a premium for importing and then some just for measure.

Can the rack (that holds 4 modules) be linked to the amp so you can have 6 or 7 modules or are they separate entities?

What would these sound like at lower volumes?.... Going back the debate about a gd sound at low volume and some people's opinions that large amps sound better then low watt ones!?

They're releasing the E2 (i think it's called that) that hold a few more modules and can be linked up with the mod 50

The m4 (that holds 4 modules) is only a pre amp

My mod 50 with an extra module (3 in total) and shipping including insurance has come to roughly £1400

I may have to pay some tax on that which i'm not looking forward to

I'm kind of tempted to get an Egnater 4x12 too, just so it matches even though the spec is virtually identical to my mesa

I'm just being vein now, but it would look lovely!

I havnt heard anything either, just thinking out loud. Bruce Egnator sounds a great guy, just 'moving parts' and all that.

As for sound, I just did'nt like it. Then again I don't like the Diezel Herbert after playing it alot either :)

As for it all, this is akin to what's being done here (not technology wise but theory wise, 'swiss army' and all that);

Guess am just abit 'old fashioned' :)
