Amp shootout: Bogner vs Diezel
« on: September 10, 2007, 08:38:54 PM »
Ok after I posted the clip with the Bogner, people requested a comparison, so here it is. (the Diezel clip is not played as well, amp was a tad too loud and I didn't hear the backing track, so please ignore the playing and recording volume as much as possible)

Bogner (Ch2, Boost off, Xotic RC Booster): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crvnSczfU3E

Diezel (Ch 1 Mode 3, RC Booster): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZytPmeQLBE

So which one wins?

Tricky.  You've set them both up to sound very similarly to my ears, plus it's the same speaker cab and the same mic (video recorder) which is colouring the sound a lot.

For me though, it's the Shiva.  It just seems to have a bit more midrange "honk" and rounded treble.

But you knew I was going to say that didn't you?

I think i liked the Diezel.  Again, as twinfan said, they are set quite the same tonally, or maybe it is just the recorder, who knows.  In any case, i am a reverb junky and i think the Diezel just had a tad more reverb than the bogner, also it sounded thicker with more body to it.

Easily the shiva - It's so round and smooth and expressive.
Diezels are more suited to more nasty, mean and agressive sounds imo - I don't really like their tone though tbh - I've not played one for years, but I've seen a few live, and they always just sound solid state and sterile to me - like the EMG of the amp world.
LOVING the Mules!

I went for the Bogner, sounded mellower to my ears. Nice sound!

That was great of you to post a shoot out with two world class amps most people might never get to see, let alone play through. Kudos!

I would go with the Diezel, it brings out more of your guitar's natural tone.

Quite different. Were I a pure blues guy, I'd go for the shiva. But I'm a metalhead that likes the bues, so I preffered the sharper, clearer, more-restrained-than-pushed sound of the einstien.

I bet that thing rips if you open it up a bit

For this clip i liked the Shiva better at the lower gain parts but when it kicks in to the higher gain solo the Diezel comes out on top. :D

i liked the shiva better, it sounded more raw, or something, while the einstein sounded more refined (which generally i prefer, just not for this type of tone). which is strange, i thought the shiva was a more hot-rodded marshall, 80's metal type amp when i tried it.      I haven't been able to try the einstein...

also the diezel one crashed my computer, so it loses marks for that too.

EDIT: actually, screw that, i'm not sure. I can't get the diezel one to load past about 15 seconds. I'll check it again later.

I loaded both clips and played them without looking which was which, so I wouldn't be biased one way or the other.

Turns out I preferred the Diezel, it just sounds a bit more snarly and dynamic, I think.

Interesting that some of us think the Shiva sounds more raw whilst others think it's smoother and rounder.  Everyone has different ears, I guess.
