The closest BKP to the JB would be the Nailbomb and it absolutely SLAYS the JB.  It's very much in the same vein with a similar EQ but reacts to overdrive much better retaining clarity and getting really fat on the treble strings with heavy gain.  The bass end is bigger on the NB and also tighter - it's just a much better pickup all round.

I think the Holy Diver is a little closer to a JB, but I do agree that the Nailbomb kills the JB.  Mids are much better, bass is huge and not muddy, and harmonics come through ever so much better.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Absolutely right that pickups won't cover poor technique.  If you can't hit a pinch harmonic properly, miracles will not happen (sorry, bad pun :)) when you change pickups.

However, certain pickup/guitar/amp combinations are going to make it a lot easier for harmonics to really "jump" out of the guitar, as well as affecting the character of harmonic feedback/sustain you get.  By no means is the pickup the only factor (or even one of the most significant factors), but it does contribute.

At least that's what I meant when I answered "MM by a mile".

agreed. i mean i have different guitars and the harmonics jump out of some much better than others. it's not like my technique is worse with certain guitars...  :? i have switched pickups in guitars too, so i know how much of an effect nice pickups can have on harmonics.

Its very easy to get pinched harmonics with MM's.

So if you have poorer technique MM will yield better results.

Pinch harmonics sound awesome on the MM (IMO). Tim's clip in the players section is a good example.

Dear god don't even consider a JB. It's horrid. Thin, shrill, Buzzy, and loud. Miracle man destroys it

I wouldn't say thin at all, just muddy.

But these pickups are totally different...
