restaurant in soho, london?
« on: September 18, 2007, 12:05:01 PM »
hi all,

bit random of a random request, but i haven't been to anywhere new in soho for ages. i need a good restaurant there, sensibly priced. nothing too exotic, french, uk, or something else european.

used to take people to mildreds, although i tried it the other week again and i wasn't so impressed with it.

agreed to meet an old friend tomorrow evening, and it would be nice to take her somewhere decent.

:D Hi Bud !
Trust me here : "Cafe Espania" in Old Compton Street just round the corner from Soho. Great food resonable price but you cant book tables in advance you have to turn up & wait, but trust me its worth it. As it go`s i`m going there myself tonight.

If you ever get chance, head up to Crouch End and go to Banners.  Absolutely lovely food and fairly reasonable.

I hear that Andy Kershaw's wife owns it.  You could also sit in the seat that Bob Dylan did, so there you go  :P
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Andrew's on Lexington street (opposite Mildred's in fact) was great the last time I was there (about 2 years ago mind you) but I did need to book a table in advance as it's really popular. It was definately one of the best meals I've had in the UK bearing in mind I could never afford anything particularly fancy (Maoz was a favourite 8) )

EDIT: I'm trying to think of a better meal/evening out I've had and the only thing that springs to mind was Les Philosophes in the Marais district of Paris. A bit of a trek but also worthwhile :)

Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

Don't think so, her surname is Banner.

went to cafe espana, was a perfectly judged location in fact. good portion sizes, well tasty, reasonably priced. completely unromantic though ;) , but if I ever need to take friends anywhere again, i'll be going back as its ideal. i love spanish food.

also marked down the other suggestions and they seem pretty good as well, i've stored them in my mental database of good restaurants
