and that's a filthy lie, philly, i paid £1.21 for that item in good faith!

You tricked me!  If I'd realised it was a genuine '59 Les Paul I wouldn't have let it go for a penny less than £1.26.

But seriously, I never have any luck on eBay.  You know those brave/crazy people who list something starting at 99p with no reserve and it sells for £500?  I do that and it sells for £1.19.

i am the same.  i dont mind so much with the stuff i make because i understand the risk of buying an unknown guitar of ebay, that why i dont out much of my own stuff on there!!!

I get a bit bloody miffed though when i see something go for £400 one day and mine goes for £200 the next.  that happened with my old voxac30 ss.
If i had said the vox would make you sould like the beatles i might have got £400 - that was what the other seller did, he also made no mention of the fact it was a solid state vox in his ad..

At the moment i am sellign a small vintage amp and it has had no bids yet - i am going to be kicking myself if it goes for £50 bloody quid, has to be worth more than that

I have come to the conclusion i am too honest, i wont sell a solid sate vox as if it was a classic valve ac30 and i wont sell a 45 year old amp and pretend it doesnt bloody hum a bit.

from now on its going to be a blurry photo and a one word innacurate description - i bet stuff starts going through the bloody roof!!!

I got my Marshall for a bargain off eBay due to the seller marking up as collection only.........
I didn't mind to have to drive to Chelmsford, but obviously a lot of bidders did and I got it for £250 when similar ones I'd been watching had gone for closer to £500
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot!

well my vox had to be collection only - and the guy that won it drove down from blackpool for it (ironically he was in a beatles cover band!!)

i have offered postage on my latest amp auction because it is a lot smaller and lighter

I know the feeling.  I'm just selling a couple of things, but I did sell my double olympic for about £450, and I was trying to sell the 71 goldtop reissue for around £2000 but got no bids (about 3,000 watchers though!).  I think it doesn't get bids because I mention it had a refret and respray and that puts people off.  It is actually a great guitar.  One that was converted to humbuckers went for about £3,000.  Perhaps I'll set it up as a Jeff Beck!

Frustrating, isn't it?  Blatant flannel seems to work, but at the same time those "blurry photo and a one word innacurate description" ads seem to sell as well, inexplicably.  :(

My approach is plenty of clear photos, tidy layout and lots of information (maybe too much?) - but I'm trying to include a bit of "salesmanship" in the wording whilst still being completely honest (if that's not a contradiction in terms).

And I've come to the conclusion that having a Reserve Price is definitely off-putting (and it adds £££ to the listing fees too).

Bloody hell!  And I was disappointed that my Strat didn't sell with 22 watchers!

Thats my approach too, as honest and descriptive as possible with loads of clear photo's and the text at least broken into paragraphs rather than one large chunk - it really isnt working for me

:D Damn you beet me to it !!

As it go`s i sympathise with you about Ebay. I`ve been saying for a long while that there seems to be a lot of Bullsh*t about it floating around ie,   " i`ve bought loads of stuff very cheaply off of Ebay"  & then in the same breath they say " & i`ve sold everything for twice as much as it was worth on Ebay" what i load of cr*p ! Everybody cant sell for high if there all buying for low can they. When Ebaying its allways better to work on the assumption that you`ll get only a modest amount of money for something. Then if you strike lucky & get alot of people bidding you can get a nice if occasional good result. Its also a case that you have to have the right product people will want as well i`m afraid.

 :D  8)

PS You can allways withdraw your item from listing claiming to have sold it elsewhere & then relist it a week or so later claiming the person you sold it to didn`t come through with money etc etc. That happens quite a bit i`ve noticed. A mate of mine allways puts a Buy Now price on his items but sets a starting bid of 99p, he swears by it but how true it is or if it works or not a cant vouch for.
God I could do with a Gin & Tonic !

Bless you for that selfless act, but I've put a starting price of £475 on it.  We'll see what happens.
