Hi guy's, my pickup selector switch has started playing up on my Epi Les Paul Std, (thought it was doing well!), I was thinking about getting a Switchcraft type if possible, they look more substantial than standard Epi, but I seem to remember the depth of thread was either too long or too short, anyone had any experience fitting these? :?

Normal LP Switchcraft will do.

They have shorter ones too, but you want the slighly longer one.

you can always add a few washers to get it to the right height

No worries on the Switchcraft switch at all. Should be the first thing that all Epi owners do.

Do yourself a favour though whilst you have the back off and the soldering iron out.......change your pots over to CTS 500K ones, and replace your wiring with braided wires. If you want to go really extravagant find a pair of Bumblebee caps too, and watch as your Epi suddenly discovers a whole new tone! My old Epi with Gibson 57 Classics and a full Historic quality wiring loom blew the socks off my Gibson factory Standard.

completely agree, an epi lp was my second ever guitar and the switch died within 6 months!!

Switchcrafts are so simple and sturdy they usually last forever!!

Cheers guys, I've been going to swap it for a while, but it's given me an excuse to do it now. I'm going to do the lot while I am at it, switch, pots, jack socket, caps and wiring.

If you want the proper Bumblebee paper and oil capacitors Julian who runs www.fake58.co.uk normally has them in stock. £25 for a pair is pricey compared to 80p each for Sprague orange drops, but if you're not playing at ceiling bursting overdrive levels you'll be able to hear the difference. The Bumblebees give so much extra warmth to your tone.

You can get the rest of your bits from there too if needs be.......just need a nice pair of Bareknuckles to attach it all to
