Maxon AD-9 is thought to be the dogs bollocks though I've never had one.

I used to have an EH Memory Man and it was a really nice pedal.

ones not exactly better than the other, its just a matter of preference.

Digital delay is good in the way that all it does is create a delay effect with almost complete transparency --> no colouration of tone. And they can delay easily up to something like 16 seconds. But at the same time, digital effects can sometimes seem to steal out some of the soul and warmth of the tone.

Analogue delays tend to have a warm liquidy feeling to them, but they colour your tone slightly. A downside is your delay length tends to be pretty limited.

Downsides to both: they eat batteries like none other and tend to be really pricey.

Go a/b some in a shop. Tell me what ya think :)

Diamond Memory Lane is top of the range unless you go for real tape ...

The old Boss DD-2 is brilliant - it's a digital delay but it has a lovely warm mellow sound like an analog. It's not as brittle and harsh as, say, a DD-5 or DD-6.

If you got the money, look at Robert Keeley's modded AD-9 or DD-3. Keeley's the man!

I bought an Artec Analog Delay a few months ago.  It's not quite as nice sounding as a Memory Man, but it's about half the price and cheap considering it's analog and true bypass:

Also, Analogman recently released an analog delay which has had good reviews.  US$145 but you have to keep an eye on the website for when they're available.

It's not analogue but worth checking out: the Boss RE-20 space echo. It's a digital replica of the old RE-201.

I got one a week ago. It sounds and reacts just like a real tape unit. Check out some of the reviews posted on the web. This thing is as good as everyone says it is.

trust you to suggest the absolute most expensive delay box ever made.

Probably cheaper to employ a second guitarist to follow you about and play every note you do just a few milliseconds after you.

(btw, I have no doubt that the fulltone tube tape echo is the best around, as you are, of course, the ancient of metal. just don't expect to see me shell out £600 for one any time soon)

I have been wathing this thread as I have been considering an analogue echo pedal, however nothing seems to offer the multi tap capabilitys that I want :(

Nothing seems to suit except a binson (or possibly an echoplex) for the early Floyd sounds (not the Shadows sounds which I have a soft spot for but don't aspire to)
