Which distortion pedal to buy???
« on: September 26, 2007, 04:52:10 PM »
Hi guys! I'm about to get myself a new distortion pedal! I need you to help me choose!

I'm looking for this kind of tone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDGeC7l3lhU

Some of you might not like this band, but I really like this tone...So, help me on this, please!
I wish women were like pickups - if they lack output, you sell them... or ask Tim to rewind them :D

I'm sorry, I just listened to those two clips... well as much of them as I could stomach... Dear lord... When was that? It sounds like 80s glam rock meets hardcore Christian praise or something. Scary!

Aaaanyway, as for tone... what about the gear you currently have?

Guitar/pickups, current effects units, amp. Anything else?
Might help to have an idea of what you need to get there!

Well, like I said, some of you won't stand it, but I really like that tone... Don't have any better example, sorry!

I have The Nailbomb (alnico VIII) bridge, and The Mule neck. I use digital amp modeling, so I only need a good distortion.

WTF - sounds nothing like 80s glam
Sounded more like Fates Warning on the first clip and Helloween on the second.

Something that gives a typical Mesa Dual Rec type tone

A good choice of distortion pedal might be a HBE Full Metal Jacket

The Lee Jackson may indeed be good as well

or have a look at the AMT pedals

You know what will nail this tone?

A BroTech Fat Pipe Pro!

I've had a BroTech for about 4 years. They are a small NY company and I picked up the pedal at a guitar show.

Buy whichever one you like the most.

I just heard those brotech clips... they sound astonishing on the Peter Gunn mp3...

Here's a pedal I believe is worth noticing... The Tonebone Hot British!!!

http://www.tonebone.com/tb-hotbritish.htm

I'm considering buying it, along with some other pedals you guys recommended! Thank you for that!

So, does anyone have any info on this?

EDIT: @TwilightOdyssey: I just found out that you have one... So, could you please tell me would it work for this tone I'm after?

Yup, and that's why I recco'd the Fat Pipe Pro PDT_008

The Fat Pipe will nail that sound; The Tone Bone is good, but not great.

The problem is I can't get this anywhere not even near Croatia... Seems like they have no dealers outside US.  :(

That could be a problem.

Food for thought: You could always buy it and have it shipped to me, and I would have no problem mailing it to you.
