Can I use the fx loop to slightly attenuate my amp...if I connect the output of amp fxloop to input of dibox, the lineout of dibox to return of di box(Di box is the palmer p 09, has attenuator on line out)...without blowing up my amp?

Seems to work but does it do damage......just shoot me if stupid idea

it's all line level signals so I can't see any reason why there would be a problem.

Funnily enough I happened to see something which is designed to do just that - on award-sessions website they have a solo booster (think it was that name) and it sits in the fx loop and controls level going to power amp... although any pedal with a volume would do the trick, but you dont want it colouring the sound unnecesarily.

if I'm reading the right, does that mean you could stick a volume pedal in the fx loop, turn it down, and then you can crank the tubes more?

Well, not exactly, Im not a schematics expert, but it would be like a second master volume. Yes you can turn your master volume to full tilt and use something in the fx loop to keep the volume down..but tubes drive into saturation by the volume going into them, so if you attenuate the signal at the fx loop, you get less ummpphh (its a technical term ;) ) going into the power valves..so they wont get that sweet power overdrive.

basically yes - the preamp runs flat out and so adds volume to the input signal, you then scale this volume back with the pedal and then the power amp amplifies whats left, but it is set to expect a full signal from the preamp, so wont run so hard with the attenuated signal from the pedal.
