Does anyone have piezo bridge pickup reliability experience?
« on: September 27, 2007, 07:13:07 AM »
I've also asked this question on the SD forum, does anyone have any long term experience with various brands of piezo bridge pickups? I have had Fishman piezos on a Wilkinson type trem (OK, but arrived with a faulty saddle which they supplied for me to change) and a Tunomatic for a Les Paul, where two of the saddles (A and E) have developed a horrible buzzing sound after a couple of years.
I'm outside tha states, Fishman will not supply the saddles and no longer repair them for clients outside the USA. I am was told to contact their European agents for the repair. The agents say they don't know anything about repairs and can't do anything.
With this delightful situation, I am very interested in other brands, but would prefer to have some info on the reliability of the tunomatic bridges in the medium term. I understand that Baggs and ?Shadow? do tunomatics?
All comments gratefully received.
Thanks.

The only piezo I've tried is the one that Music Man put in the Petrucci model, and I can't comment on it's reliability.
As for other brands I'm sure Graph Tech do a tune-o-matic replacement.

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at their site. Due to the somewhat disappointing experience with the Fishman piezos (especially when the price is taken into account) the reliability aspect is the most important thing for me.

I've used the Graph Tech "Gost" system a number of times with no problems so far. I think they do two different Tune-o-matic bridges; the conventional Gibson type and the ABM type.
