Thanks for the comments everyone, here's take 2 :-)

The gear & setup was exactly the same, but I changed a few settings:
On the Savage, turned the bass down by 1 & the mid up by 1
On the BBE turned the "Lo Contour" down by 1
On the mic preamp engaged the 80hz filter

Still a little bassy, but less than take 1.  Enjoy :)
