I went from the boonies of Wales to Manchester when I went to uni, so I went from a village of just under 1000 people to a halls of residence with nearly 1500!! It's some scary shite to start out, but you make friends and then get on with things.

Someone once said to me about uni..........

"It's the time of your life where you have minimum responsibility and maximum possibility"

Make use of your time and let yourself go. I loved Uni, but every step of your life is simply another step on and I'd never swap what I have now for those days in Uni......... but you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be boring people with the stories until the day I die! :twisted:

Look on the bright side - there is a pretty good number of Gigs in Brum and especially if you can travel out to other bits of the West Mids.

Think of it as a working trip where you can appreciate the social aspects and enjoy the countryside when you go home...and you re not really that far from Bucks geographically speaking.

I am torn in similar ways - i live in surburbia (Croydon) and love it's easy transport and easy access to gigs and events all across London, whilst my girlfriend lives in a pretty part of north Essex, which is relatively unspoilt but "out in the boonies"/sticks.

Not to mention- being in suburbia does mean that my business is accessable to more musicians too.

So get used to Brum, and look forward to going home to Buck during holidays

im so wasted right now ; but i just want you guys to know that i have hundreds, if not billions of friends around here already - everyone's awesome. the nightlife is amazing - i have tickets to NOFX at carling academy at the beginning of next month - i love my halls, i love my independance. yet none of this stops me missing the old days and my old friends. I know its something i've gotta live with and i'll manage fine. Somebody said that i've still got you guys - and that's very much the case and it's really suprisingly comforting. thanks dudes. sleep tight

The old days can always be missed, but the homesickness is merely just a symptom of the first tentative steps into something new. You'll be asking yourself what you were missing in a months or so time.

I'm 31 now and someone recently asked me that if I could go back in time where would I go to?

I said somewhere about 5 to 2 years ago IF I MUST!! Thing is that each step like school, uni, first job is simply just that........a step to the next big thing. Your life isn't laid before you, you make the choices every morning that lead you forward, just remember to take the path that looks the most fun then you'll have lots to bore your grankids with when you're old! :D

when i was at uni i was looking forward to the weekend every week... now i'm home i look back with affection, even though deep down i know i hated it at the time... :lol:

I was GUTTED when I left uni and when I'd go back home I would be equally gutted. However, I sure am glad I'm not a penniless student anymore!

I'm home for the weekend. I forgot how INCREDIBLE my Nailbomb'd Ibanez thru an analogman SD-1 and my V30/G12H'd jcm800 2x12 combo sounds.
It's just the best tone in the world. Man i love playing guitar at home - hardly played since i've been at uni - can't stand having nothing propper to plug into. I might just drive the '800 up to birmingham tomorrow together with my sound system and the rest of my guitars.
Theres plenty of blaring house and r'n'b music thats on all day long back in my halls, so i'm sure noone will mind a bit of guitar plaguing their ears for a change...

If it makes you feel any better indy I miss Amershem too.

Of course I wont be there ever again as my sister has moved away from there and because of family commitments I wont get back to the UK for some time now.

I remember posting a cryptic litle thread about 2 years ago saying "ahh Tesco in Amershem" and it took you 3 days to figure it out and reply..... Its an Awesome part of the world and so you should miss it.

Just remember not to let life pass you by whilst doing so.

Takes me back to when i was about your age. Just enjoy yourself as good as you can and all will be fine, i didnt cope with changes too well in the beginning also, but theres no need to worry really.
