As a sideline I convert Telecasters into solid bodied resonators, but occasionally I take on custom designs as well. I was saked to build someone a left handed solid body resonator, in the sahpe of a strat but with a right handed neck. He also asked me to fit a bare Knuckle Black Dog, so I went ahead.

The guitar itself is made using an existing high quality neck, with the body in european oak. However when I got it strung up and finshed I was amazed at the pickup, and the tone I could get from it. Even though being a righthanded player I couldnt do it justice, however tuned to open G for a while, this guitar sang and screamed, with a slide.

Thought other forum folk would like to see how sometimes BK pickups get put in the more leftfield stuff, I fully intend to use more BK pickups in my Tele conversions. You can see some of these on my Sollophonic website.

Sorry about the pic size. I tried to post a pic the same size as the ones on my website, but the BK forum came back saying that they were too big, and should be less than 80Mb. I sized it down to just less on my computer, when it uploaded onto the forum it seems to have ended up at only about 49Mb.

WesV, Id love to see your resonator when youve finished it. Email me through my site for any advice, if you need it. Im not the only one doing reso conversions, there are a few of us making them, worldwide.

Maybe I'll post a slightly bigger one on the Pickups forum, otherwise this guitar can be viewed much bigger on the website, if folks want to.

i have drawn up a few sets of plans over the years but never actually gotten around to starting it but i have a figured walnut acoustic set i was going to use to make a thinline resolectric at some point.

Where do you get all the resonator parts - i know stew-mac have them but they dont do as much resonator stuff as they used to, any Uk suppliers out there!!!!!!

I use Stew mac, especially with the current $-£ exchange. They are great for most luthiers supplies, their graded needle file sets are works of art....!

They only take a week and a half or so to ship, and their website converts their prices to £s as well for you.

yeah i use stew-mac for a lot of my luthiery stuff anyway - if you order with the dhl option its super quick. I have had stuff arrive in less than 48 hours!!

I like your soundholes in the back - the match the resonator vibe really well

resonators are just on the long list of things i havnt gotten around to yet!

Well i was finally inspired to do something about my resonator craving and i ordered a cone and some other resonator bits.

Problem is what to do now!! I probably dont want to be starting my idea for a walnut thinline es335 style resolectric because that all gonna be a bit fancy and i dont have time at the moment.

i do have a couple of old telecaster builds that might make good donors for this - my 2nd and 5th ever guitar builds. Both nice but not compared to what i build now, probably perfect for this kind of project
