Speaker Dome Damage
« on: October 17, 2007, 10:43:51 PM »
I transported a speaker home (CL80) today and the dome managed to get a bit crumpled in the middle (there is no rip, its just the paper has depressed in the middle) - will this seriously affect the tone or will it rectify itself once some sonic waves are pumped through it?

I doubt whether it will regain it's shape Elliott but it might not affect tone too much either. When my son was a toddler he got at a speaker on an amp I had at the time and caused similar damage and I can't say I noticed any detrimental effect- could have throttled the little devil at the time if he hadn't been such a  beautiful little chap.

Apply a little light suction to the middle of the cone - looks a bit odd but can work
Dont use a hoover!

Also careful use of a piece of LOW TACK masking tape might work
Apply to crumpled bit and gently pull out to proper shape

If in doubt - just live with it

Cheers -  it's all fixed now - and low powered hand 'dust buster' and the low tack masking tape trick worked with a bit of heavy duty patience and eventually the dome popped back into place.
